Men and women divers at the Olympics will compete in platform
and springboard in both individual and synchronized events.

Diving runs from August 14-28 and all events will be held at the
Olympic Aquatic Center in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex.

Both men and women events use two different types of boards: the
three-meter springboard and a 10-meter platform. The springboard
requires the divers to use the board to aid height, while the
platform is a static, wider board.

Competitions consist of a preliminary round, with the top
finishers advancing to the finals. In each round, a panel of
seven judges give each diver a score based on the difficulty of
the moves performed and the ease with which the diver performs them.

The synchronized events are taking place for just the second
time after making their Olympic debut in Sydney.  On the
springboard, divers dive off adjacent boards at the same time,
whereas on the platform, they dive off the same platform.
