NEW YORK RANGERS TEAM REPORT
Saturday, April 3, 8:09 PM

*New York Rangers Team Report*
------------------------------

Last result: 3-2 overtime win at Washington, April 3
Streak: Lost 3
Next game: season complete

The Rangers' seventh-straight non-playoff season ended with a
3-2 overtime win over the Washington Capitals. New York was just
2-7-0-3 in its last 12 games. New York played without Mark
Messier, who elected not to make the trip after an emotional
game against Buffalo on Wednesday in which he bowed and waved
good-bye to an adoring crowd at Madison Square Garden. Messier,
who is second on the all-time points list (1,887) to former
Edmonton and New York teammate Wayne Gretzky, left open the
possibility of returning next season, saying he would make a
decision in the summer. ... Mike Green of the Rangers scored his
first NHL goal in the first period.
