  • HOUSTON TEXANS TEAM REPORT

    Wednesday, April 24, 6:39 PM
2002: First season in NFL, AFC South

    Coach: Dom Capers

The Texans had 12 picks in the NFL Draft, and six of
the first seven went to offense. QB David Carr, the
first overall pick, agreed to a seven-year contract
worth $46 million with escalator clauses that could
raise it to $60 million. The first three years are
guaranteed at $16.25 million. He led the nation
with 4,839 passing yards and 46 touchdowns last
season. ... Houston has tried to ease the pressure
on Carr, selecting perennial Pro Bowl LT Tony Boselli
in the expansion draft to protect his blind side and
signing veteran QB Kent Graham as a tutor. In the
draft, the Texans selected Florida WR Jabar Gaffney
with the first pick in the second round to give
Carr a target. ... Houston made DE Ahmad Miller
of Nevada-Las Vegas Mr. Irrelevant, selecting him
with the 261st overall pick. Miller will be honored
the week of June 16-22 in Newport Beach, California.
