also played their first game at Shea Stadium in New York. The
Expos defeated the Mets, 11-10, on April 8, 1969. Maury Wills
was the first batter in team history and went 3-for-6 with an
RBI. Don Shaw earned the win in relief. The starting pitcher was
Mudcat Grant. ... Frank Robinson said he still enjoys managing
and would like to return next season when it moves to
Washington, D.C. "I've enjoyed it enough with these guys to want
to continue," Robinson said before Sunday's game. "I don't know
if I would like to do it somewhere else." ... RHP Livan
Hernandez lasted seven innings on Saturday, raising his season
total to 255. He is the first Expo to reach the 250-inning
plateau since Steve Rogers had 273 in 1983. ... Of Terrmel
Sledge has his place in Expos history. He made the last out in
the final game in Montreal on Wednesday. He had the final hit
and drove in the final run in Expo history on Sunday. "Nobody
wants to made the final out, but it's an honor," Sledge said.
