At 101-61, the Yankees have compiled three consecutive 100-win
seasons for the first time in franchise history. They join the
1929-31 Philadelphia A's, 1942-44 St. Louis Cardinals, 1969-71
Baltimore Orioles and 1997-99 Atlanta Braves as the only teams
in major league history to record three straight 100-win
seasons. ... The Yankees hit a single-season franchise record
242 home runs. ... RP Mariano Rivera led the majors in saves
with 53, breaking his own single-season franchise record of 50
(set in 2001). ... OF Hideki Matsui became the third player in
the last 50 years to drive in at least 100 runs in each of his
first two seasons in the majors. He joins Wally Joyner (1986-87)
and Albert Pujols (2001-04). ... 3B Alex Rodriguez is one of
only three players in major league history to compile at least
35 home runs, 100 runs and 100 RBI in seven consecutive seasons.
He joins Jimmie Foxx (nine straight seasons from 1932-40) and
Babe Ruth (seven straight from 1926-32).
