Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are the first pair of teammates
with 40 doubles and 40 home runs in the same season.  Ramirez
had 43 homers and 44 doubles, while Ortiz collected 41 homers
and 47 doubles. ...Ortiz finished the season with 91 extra-base
hits, which is one why of Jimmie Foxx's 1938 club record.
...First baseman-outfielder David McCarty had three strikeouts
in two innings Sunday in his third appearance as a pitcher.
...Seven players had 30 or more doubles en-route to a total of
373, which tied the major league team record shared by the 1930
St. Louis Cardinals and 1997 Red Sox. Ortiz led the ballclub
with 47 doubles. ...In their last eight games, Bill Mueller hit
just .185, while Mark Bellhorn batted .370.  Bellhorn
also led the team with 177 strikeouts. ...Jason Varitek batted
leadoff in Sunday's regular season finale for the first time in
his career.  ...Johnny Damon's 94 RBI was a career-high.
