Monday's victory was the fifth opening day shutout in franchise
history and the first since 1992 - a 2-0 triumph over Cleveland
in the first game played at Camden Yards. OF Luis Matos had a
.077 career batting average (1-13) against P Barry Zito before
his second-inning home run. Matos' 11 RBI's led the Orioles in
spring training while batting .373. Wednesday's starter Daniel
Cabrera lost his only start against the A's in 2004. He lasted
2 2/3 innings and gave up five earned runs (16.88 ERA). OF Sammy
Sosa became the 30th different starting right fielder for the
Orioles on Opening Day. "I've got to get used to the right field
wall here. Wrigley(Field) is kind of tough sometimes, but here
it is not the same." Baltimore improved to 33-19 in season
openers including wins their last five.
