SLAM! Wrestling: WrestleMania XV stories

Austin wins title at WM15

By JOHN POWELL -- SLAM! Wrestling
They call it the "granddaddy of them all". WrestleMania, it's the Super Bowl of the sports-entertainment biz. Most years it lives up to the pomp and circumstance. Not so in 1999. Throwing all their eggs in one basket, the World Wrestling Federation casually whipped through the under card to arrive at the main event of WrestleMania 15 and the fateful conclusion of the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin - Vince McMahon storyline.

    Wrestlemania XV lacked magic

By ERIC BENNER -- For SLAM! Wrestling
Last Sunday witnessed the fifteenth coming of the messiah called Wrestlemania. Our own Greg Oliver was on-hand, and I was there, live, at some sports bar, watching it on television. My first reaction was "woo-hoo, what a show!" Quickly, though, as the days past, my memories of Wrestlemania have faded.

    An audience with The King

By GREG OLIVER -- SLAM! Wrestling
Jerry 'The King' Lawler has to be among the easiest interviews on the planet.
Ask him a question, and off he goes.
SLAM! Wrestling caught up with the highly-quotable Lawler in the media room at the WrestleMania Rage party last Saturday. The King was hyping WrestleMania for the other media, and on the WWF web site's live broadcast, so the challenge was to ask him a couple of new questions.

    Rock humbled by WM15 experience

By GREG OLIVER -- At WrestleMania
PHILADELPHIA -- I am quite proud of myself. I interviewed 'The Rock' Rocky Maivia and actually got him to use the word 'humble.'
The young, newcomer to the WWF that I first met in January 1997 at a SkyDome press conference announcing the signing of Tiger Ali Singh is still in Duane Johnson somewhere. You just have to ask the right questions.

    Outlaws have different takes

By GREG OLIVER -- At WrestleMania
PHILADELPHIA -- Separating the New Age Outlaws for interviews is the best way to get some interesting responses.
Take Bad Ass Billy Gunn. When queried, he couldn't remember who the Outlaws faced at last year's WrestleMania.

    Shamrock seeing Gold

By GREG OLIVER -- At WrestleMania
PHILADELPHIA -- If you read between the lines of the following Ken Shamrock quote, perhaps you too will be a believer in Goldust as the next Intercontinental champion.

WWF fans all in a Rage

By GREG OLIVER -- At WrestleMania
PHILADELPHIA -- If WrestleMania XV is the Ragin' Climax, then the Rage party Saturday night was a disappointing night in the sack.
The combination of a little of Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul (and Chocolate Salty Balls), Gerry Brisco and Pat Patterson in dresses, Sable wearing next to nothing, and the hottest WWF stars, and you would think that you would have a recipe for a smokin' time. And you probably did for the hour that Rage was on live on USA Network and TSN.

    Fans seek out autographs

By GREG OLIVER -- At WrestleMania
PHILADELPHIA -- The autograph seekers are out in full force in downtown Philly, on the prowl for WWF superstars.
Nick, 37, is a professional autograph hound from Reading, PA, and he believes that wrestlers are only second to hockey players and boxing when it comes to accommodating their fans.

    Canadian contingent psyched for WM15

By GREG OLIVER -- SLAM! Wrestling
On the official WrestleMania 15 card, you won't find Edge, Christian or Test's names. But they all insist you'll be seeing them on the pay-per-view.
The Brood's Edge and Christian both expect to be on Sunday Night Heat just before the big show, likely in the tag team battle royale. And likely more.

The best and worst of WrestleMania

By JOHN POWELL -- SLAM! Wrestling
When I think of March it's not some university basketball tournament that fills my thoughts. Traditionally, March is WrestleMania month to me. The time when the World Wrestling federation and their talent kick it up a notch putting on their best pay-per-view of the year. Storylines climax. Long-standing grudges are settled. It doesn't get any bigger than this.
