WWF returns to MontrealRougeau mega-show covers the basesOnline chat with Eric BennerSLAM! Wrestling columnist Eric Benner joined us online to defend his opinions, and answer questions about the crazy world of pro wrestling.NCW delivers at Challengemania 8WWF delivers solid spectacle in MontrealEveryone who didn't expect to walk into a live episode of Raw, complete with heel turns and gang bangs and Titantrons and McMahon family members, was not disappointed. Everyone else, well, probably was. The Rock's a riot in MontrealThis past Sunday, at the Montreal Molson Centre, the WWF was in full force, short only Steve Austin as a result of the previous weekend's attempted vehicular homicide. Now, I don't think there's even one other re-capper out there who cares, but to me, the atmosphere of a wrestling show counts just as much as it does at a hockey or baseball game. For example, nice as it is, a baseball game at the SkyDome just isn't the same as a baseball game at Yankee Stadium. To be fair, though, both experiences top a game at my local ballpark, the Big O, but you probably didn't need me to tell you that. Equally, one of the reasons the Olympic Stadium bites so much is that between fifty and sixty people show up to watch our Expos play. Rougeau show old-style and solidMONTREAL -- Last night, history was made. In a small, local venue in Montreal something outright amazing happened. I was shocked. I was amazed. I was flabbergasted. Last night, I watched a good, live wrestling show. You know, one of those shows where the millionaires mail in their performances because they have a live television show to film the next day? Except, you know, the performers weren't millionaires, didn't have any show to worry about but this one, and actually tried to entertain the fans.Storm targets Precious LucyAmanda Storm has nothing nice to say about Precious Lucy.Storm, a woman who regularly wrestles men on the indy circuit and trained with Killer Kowalski, will be facing Lucy in a women's match at the International Wrestling 2000 show August 9th in Montreal. Lucy has been a fan favourite at the first two IW2000 shows this year, and is sure to have the crowd's support behind her against antagonist Amanda Storm. Venis high on promos and charityWhen one visits Val Venis during a Canadian promotional appearance, one cannot but help feel a sense of déjà vu, as Val has seemingly been a part of every promotional event in Canada since his debut in the WWF.Seemingly. Montreal rabid for WWF actionThe night before the writing of this match report, the WWF was in full-force for its much-awaited Montreal house show. Or maybe it wasn't the WWF that was in full force - maybe it was the fans. With the house all-but-packed, and the screaming as loud as it really could be without massive throat trauma injuries, the noise was definitely in the range those red decibals you're not supposed to listen to.Indie show thrills Quebec crowdLive from the Pierre Charbonneau arena, at two-thirty in the afternoon on St-Valentine's Day, wrestling in Quebec was revived, if only for a day, to heights it had not witnessed in decades. Jacques Rougeau, with the aid of Paul Leduc, put together a show which impressed this reporter from top to bottom. The return of the RougeausJacques Rougeau. Raymond Rougeau. Paul Leduc. Tiger Jackson. These were just a few of the names who joined the youngblood Iceman at a press conference at Les 4 Glaces in Montreal on Thursday. Most of the big names of Quebec wrestling, past and present, were on hand to witness the news. Jacques Rougeau is bringing the wrestling back to Quebec.WWF 'above-average' in MontrealThe town was a-buzz, today. A lot was going on in Montreal. The CFL quarter-finals saw the hometown Alouettes advance, most of the provincial junior football finals took place, and Stone Cold Steve Austin was wreaking havoc in the Molson Centre.WWF takes over MontrealWWF Montreal reportThe show started with the announcer who was not the regular guy but the replacement who's a former stripper and works local RWR and also sucks as Road Dog told him later in the show. |
