"Mask" director to team with The Rock?
"The Mask" director Chuck Russell is in talks to team up with wrestling star The Rock in the film "The Scorpion King," Variety reports.
Russell, who directed Jim Carrey in "The Mask" and Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Eraser" is in negotiations to direct the film, which will be a sequel to the upcoming "The Mummy Returns" -- itself a sequel to the 1999 Brendan Fraser vehicle "The Mummy," which was a remake of the horror classic, and earned $410 million worldwide.
"The Scorpion King's" plot will revolve around a peasant (The Rock, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson) who seeks vengeance after his village is conquered by a marauding army, Variety said.
"The Mummy Returns" is set to open in theatres in May, 2001, while "The Scorpion King" has been pencilled in for Christmas, 2001 or summer, 2002, Variety said.
Meanwhile, Russell is to direct Sean Connery in "End Game" and has been mentioned as a director for the big-screen adaptation of Marvel Comics' sorcerer "Dr. Strange," Variety said.
