Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre's Entre Torre Infernal Pay-Per-View
Empresa Mexicana de Lucha
Libre's
Entre Torre Infernal Pay-Per-View Friday, August
4th,
2000 - Arena Mexico
Mexico City-Mexico
We're at it again. Last week, SLAM! Wrestling provided an in depth preview of New Japan Pro Wrestling's
first
pay-per-view. This week, we're previewing Empresa Mexicana de
Lucha Libre's "Entre Torre Infernal" Pay-Per-View. Back in March at their first pay-per-view, Atlantis defeated Villano III in a mask vs mask match that was a match of the year candidate. This time around the main event is a
four-way cage match where the last man remaining gets his head shaved.
New CMLL World Tag Team champions will be crowned as the finals of the
tournament to crown new champs will take place. Plus a special 12-man
elimination tag match where the last man remaining has to unmask. We've
assembled an all-star panel of international wrestling experts offering their picks and
predictions: SLAM's own
John Molinaro,
Lucha Libre aficionado Robert Bihari of
Highspots.com and
Live
Audio Wrestling's Dan
"The Mouth" Lovranski. John Molinaro will have a full report on the
show tomorrow.
Four Way Cage Match (loser gets shaved bald)
|
Perro Aguayo
Lucha Libre legend
Best Move: Double foot stomp.
Best Moment: Beating Konnan in the main event of AAA's
When World's Collide PPV in 1994.
|
|
VS
|
Mascara Ano 2000
One third of the Los Hermanos
Dinamitas clique
Best Move: Wild brawling tactics.
Best Moment: Breaking a beer bottle over Perro Aguayo's
head in 1995, setting off a huge, money making feud.
|
|
VS
|
Villano III
Wrestling better since losing his
mask
Best Move: Senton
Best Moment: Beating Chris Benoit (then wrestling as
Pegasus Kid in Mexico) in a mask vs mask match in 1992.
|
|
VS
|
Pierroth Jr
Career rudo in Mexico
Best Move: Power Bomb.
Best Moments: Beating Brazo de Plata in a hair vs hair
match, December 3, 1999.
|
SLAM! Predictions
John Molinaro: One of the rudos, Dos Mil and Pierroth,
will get their head shaved. Villano III just lost his mask a few months
ago so EMLL won't put him through a head shaving. And there's no way
Perro would agree to getting scalped. Pierroth would seem the logical
choice as it would mean more if he lost his hair than Dos Mil.
Robert Bihari : Pierroth Jr. will get his head shaved.
I say this because he was the one that requested it be a cage match and
I see that coming back to haunt him when he ends up left in the cage at
the end. No technico will be losing their hair, that's for sure.
Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski : Is Perro Aguayo still on
his retirement tour? It never seems
to end. Since Aguayo is the only one who has lost a hair match
before, they can get him out early (it will help the
quality of the match, too). I see Perro Aguayo winning against Mascara
Ano 2000 first, leaving 2000 to battle Villano III,
with Villano winning here because he just lost his mask at the last EMLL
PPV. So, that would leave Ano 2000 left to battle Pierroth
Jr and come back as the underdog, beat Pierroth and saves getting his
head shaved. The beaten man triumphs and Pierroth gets a new
look.

Best Move: Huracanrana, Flying Splash
Best Moment:His two reigns as NWA Middleweight

|

Best Moment: Beating Grupo Revolucion's (another Mexican promotion) Mr Niebla II in a

|
|
VS
|
Ultimo Guerrero
The Chris Jericho of
Mexico
Best Move: Reverse Superplex
Best Moment: Defeating Mr Aguila (WWF's Essa Rios) in a
mask vs mask match on September 11, 1998.
|
|
&
|
Rey Bucanero
Under-rated light heavyweight
Best Move: Tope con hilo.
Best Moments: His several tours with CMLL Japan.
|
SLAM! Predictions
John Molinaro: EMLL have really been pushing Guerrero
and Bucanero for the past few months. This is the perfect opportunity
to promote them as the top heel tag team in Mexico. They could easily
eclipse the memory of El Hijo del Santo and Negro Casas (the last
champions) and establish themselves as major players within the EMLL
hierarchy. Charles and Niebla aren't a serious team. Go with Guerrero
and Bucanero.
Robert Bihari: Three weeks ago, Guerrero & Bucanero
were considered the favourites by
a HUGE margin. There was no way they could lose this match. But now,
doubts
have risen. Why you ask? Simple, because on the last three EMLL shows at
Arena Mexico, the team has been booked in mid-card matches and Mr.
Niebla
and Emilio Charles Jr. have been moved up on the card as a regular
pairing.
The two teams haven't even stepped in the same ring on a major show to
build
this match up. EMLL has a reputation for building up youngsters to get a
major push (Mr. Aguila, Olimpico, etc.) but those guys always end up
falling
back to mid-card status and having the pushes yanked out in a matter of
days. Some say this will happen now to Bucanero and Guerrero who have
been
getting a monster push since December of 1999. I can see it happening,
but
considering the tecnicos are going to win the main event, I'll take
Bucanero and Guerrero in this one.
Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski : Guerrero and Bucanero over
Charles and Niebla.
