For one, it's being organized by Howard Brody, who is the NWA President, and it's being run in his Tampa, Florida-based promotional area.
The big event of the weekend is the October 13th "Battle of the Belts 2001: An NWA Odyssey" show at the Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory, a historic location that has seen many wrestling epics over the years. Tickets go on sale for that card on August 21st.
Most of the major NWA titles are usually defended at the Battle of the Belts show, as well as matches from many NWA-affiliated promotions across the world. The Canadian representatives are not known at this time, but Winnipeg-born NWA champ Steve Corino is expected to be on top.
Besides the show itself, there are also other events for fans.
Friday night will be the NWA Awards Banquet at Crazy Buffet. Fans will be able meet and mingle with the wrestlers and promoters from around the NWA and their families in a private setting.
Saturday afternoon is the NWA Fan Convention, featuring wrestling, sports and comic book memorabilia. Usually, a number of stars of the past, as well as the current NWA wrestlers, are available for autographs throughout the day. (The NWA is looking for vendors for the show. If you are interested, email
Mark Nulty.)
