Ed Whalen, a Calgary media personality whose name will always be linked with the early days of television's Stampede Wrestling, died early Tuesday morning after suffering a massive heart attack.

Whalen, 74, was stricken Sunday while vacationing in Florida. He was left in a coma and on life support while Nomi Whalen, his wife of almost 35 years, kept vigil at his bedside at Bon Secours Hospital in Venice, Fla.

The decision was made to take Whalen off life support and he passed this morning.
