Prior to Calgary 7's telecast of last night's Flames game, legendary
broadcaster Eddie Whalen joked he'd need plenty of tissues to get through the
emotional evening. After all, it was his last road game as a broadcaster.
However, even after Whalen signs off the air on RDTV next Thursday, there's
a chance Calgarians may not have seen the last of Ed TV.
Whalen told The Calgary Sun yesterday there's a chance he may end up returning to
the Stampede Wrestling schtick that made him famous. To do so, he'd have to
work for Calgary 7's rival, A-Channel.
"(Calgary 7) put up with me for 44 years -- I don't think they'd stand in
my way," said Whalen, who will likely stay on with the station in public
relations when his contract expires in September.
"(Ross and Bruce Hart) want me to be involved in some capacity and I may
just do flashbacks or something like that."
Whalen is also considering publishing his memoirs. In the meantime and in
between time, stay tuned.
