RAW fans belted with confusion

By TIM BAINES -- Ottawa Sun

Just when there should have been some closure with The Next Big Thing Brock Lesnar settling in as WWE's heavyweight champion, wrestling fans have been thrown for a loop.

RAW GM Eric Bischoff, after learning that Lesnar would only compete on rival Stephanie McMahon's Smackdown!, took matters into his own hands.

Bischoff has created his very own RAW champion, handing the inaugural belt to Triple H Monday.

That was where the confusion started, but it certainly wasn't where it ended.

Later in the show, Triple H was teamed with Chris Jericho against Ric Flair and Rob Van Dam. But with Van Dam pinning Triple H's shoulders to the mat for the three-count, somehow, some way, RVD left the ring with not only his own intercontinental championship, he was hoisting the RAW title as well. That should play out on tomorrow's RAW.

  • For months we've been left wondering, are they or aren't they? But Smackdown! viewers were left with no question when Chuck pulled a ring from his tights and asked Billy to be his partner for life. That could set up a marriage next Thursday. I've got a strong feeling that this wedding will turn into a melee.

  • Speaking of marriage, wedding bells are in the air for Tommy Dreamer, who, according to 1wrestling.com, will soon marry his former WCW valet Teresa Hayes (Beulah McGillicuddy). Dreamer wasn't in too romantic a mood on RAW as he destroyed The Big Show with a barrage of chair shots. It's time to bring back the hardcore title, already.

  • Pillows ... those aren't pillows. Terri and Stacy Keibler were involved in a lingerie pillows match on RAW. And Jerry Lawler was in puppy heaven, while doing the play-by-play, often finding himself on the bed which had been strategically placed in the middle of the ring.

  • Smackdown! tickets for the Oct. 15 show in Toronto went on sale yesterday. Tickets for the Oct. 14 RAW in Montreal were already available. If ticket sales go well in Montreal, there's a good chance WWE will take notice and book a pay-per-view there in the new year.

  • There is some question that Kane is not really Kane. Glen Jacobs may have lost a few pounds, but that's still him behind the new streamlined mask.

  • There's a buzz going around again that WWE is poised to sign Scott Steiner. Of course it's possible, but Steiner has a long history of injuries. You can bet WWE will focus on trying to bring in Goldberg, who'd make a perfect foil for Lesnar.

  • Crash has defected to Smackdown! But it was Jeff Hardy who paid the price for the defection. Bischoff, convinced that Hardy was about to leave to join his brother Matt, ordered his henchmen, Rosie and Jamal of The Island Boyz, to destroy the high flyer. Crash escaped the ring and gleefully broke the news to Bischoff.
