Wrestling returns to Ottawa Feb. 21

By TIM BAINES -- Ottawa Sun

World Wrestling Entertainment's love affair with Canadian wrestling fans continued this week with stops in Montreal, London and Toronto.

Now the Sun has learned that Ottawa will host a RAW house show (non-televised) Feb. 21. And Cornwall will get a house show Feb. 24 (with the Smackdown! roster).

The WWE will hold its No Way Out pay-per-view Feb. 23 in Montreal. Heavyweight boxing champ Lennox Lewis is being courted, possibly to appear on that show. He could face WWE champ Brock Lesnar (another possibility would be to have Lewis ref a championship match, then meet Lesnar in a grudge match at Wrestlemania in Seattle).

Toronto will get a Feb. 24 live RAW. London will host a Smackdown! TV show Feb. 25. Stay tuned for details on ticket sales.

 - I'm sorry, but I can't go along with this "Kane is a murderer" angle, which was so contrived and silly it left a crowd of about 10,000 aghast during Monday's RAW at Montreal's Bell Centre. Okay, in the storyline Triple H says Kane, 10 years ago, got behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated. It seems Kane had a passenger, a girl he loved, Katie Fick. We learn that the car crashed, with empty beer cans everywhere, and Katie died. Then the storyline just becomes sickening and stupid. Triple H adds that semen was found inside Katie and he wonders aloud if Kane did the deed while his galpal was still alive, or if she was dead. Geez, and I thought the Gobbledegooker gimmick the WWF cooked up many Thanksgivings ago was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. Memo to WWE: Stop this stupid storyline. Give the fans credit. They may cheer on Ho Trains, HLA gimmicks, bra-and-pantie matches, steel cage donnybrooks, but they will never buy into this stupidity.

 - Before RAW, Christian and Chris Jericho cut a promo to ensure they would not be cheered by the Montreal crowd. Not surprisingly, the line "Quebec is nothing more than Western Canada's bitch" gave the duo considerable heat. That didn't matter as they won the tag-team belts from The Hurricane and an obviously distracted Kane.

 - Worth noting from RAW: Pat Patterson made a trip to the hospital. Patterson, a Montreal native, got the three-minute special from RAW GM Eric Bischoff, whose Island Boyz -- Rosey and Jamal -- destroyed Patterson and his crony Gerald Brisco. Jeff Hardy, D'Lo Brown and surprisingly The Big Show saved Patterson ... Randy Orton, on the injured list, ensured himself heel status when he declared: "Unlike Bret Hart, Randy Orton will be back." ... Speaking of Hart, he's still fondly remembered in Montreal, the site of his Survivor Series follies so many years ago. The fans were bellowing: "You screwed Bret" to referee Earl Hebner, who officiated Hart's last WWF match, a loss to Shawn Michaels that was not scripted to end the way it did.

 - WWE's No Mercy pay-per-view will be held tonight. The matches are: Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker (who will wear his cast) in a Hell in a Cell match; Triple H vs. Kane; Christian and Jericho vs. Booker T and Goldust, Victoria vs. Trish, Rob Van Dam vs. Ric Flair and Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit vs. Edge and Rey Mysterio.

 - Edge and Christian were reunited for one show only -- in Calgary last weekend. They got great pops from the crowd ... and left after a five-second posedown.

 - Tommy Laughlin (Tommy Dreamer) married former ECW valet Theresa Hayes (Beulah McGillicutty) last weekend.
