Microsoft teams with the WWF

STAMFORD, CONN. - The World Wrestling Federation is playing a significant role in the launch of the Xbox video game system, with Microsoft committing to a major partnership for advertising and promotion on the company's television, Pay-Per-View and online assets. The agreement runs through March 2002.

The multi-integrated Xbox sponsorship with WWFE, which starts today, also includes product placements and product sampling at live events. On Wednesday, November 14th at 4:00 p.m., The Rock will be at WWF New York to officially kickoff the retail launch of Xbox.

"Microsoft gets the allure of our brand, and the power of World Wrestling Federation fans as an important and desirable consumer base," said Jim Rothschild, Senior Vice President of North American Sales for WWFE. "That's reflected in the integrated sponsorship package for Xbox, which takes full advantage of the strengths and assets of our brand."

"The power of the World Wrestling Federation brand goes far beyond the ring. We believe that a partnership with WWFE is one of the key ingredients to the successful launch of Xbox," said John O'Rourke, Director of Sales and Marketing for Xbox. "World Wrestling Federation branded video games have always been bestsellers which indicates that there is significant overlap in our key demographics."

Xbox has purchased a significant advertising schedule in WWF Television programming including SmackDown! and Raw. As part of this, Xbox has secured exclusive advertising rights to the final hour of SmackDown! on November 8 and 15. Xbox is also the sponsor of the upcoming WWF Survivor Series pay-per-view on November 18.
