Heartbreak Kid returns with bang

By TIM BAINES -- Ottawa Sun

Wrestling's boy toy is back with a bang. Shawn Michaels, The Heartbreak Kid, was introduced as the newest member of the nWo by ringleader Kevin Nash on RAW.

We shouldn't be surprised by this. The Heartbreak Kid always had pizzazz, and WWE is looking to grab back some of its slipping ratings any way it can.

While there has been talk of enticing Scott Steiner, Sting and Goldberg over to the dark side, don't count on it.

Steiner is still wounded and would be a risk, the religious Sting seems content to sit this one out and Goldberg believes he's better than the game. Only a phenomenal amount of money could entice Da Man to once again enter the squared circle. And he certainly hasn't endeared himself to WWE types with his cutting comments towards the sex and violence that drives the current wrestling product.

So bringing back Michaels was not only logical, it was necessary.

He rejoins his old clique running mates, Kevin Nash and X-Pac, with another former pal, Triple H, now on the other side, as a fan favourite.

Look for Michaels to make his first appearance behind the microphone tomorrow on RAW.

STONE COLD AIDE: Stone Cold Steve Austin got sweet revenge on RAW owner Ric Flair. The two met in a match with stipulations that Austin would be benched forever if he lost, from then on serving as Flair's personal aide. But the contract also stated Flair, if he lost, would be Austin's aide. Another stipulation stated Austin couldn't punch Flair; it would be a scientific match. Austin somehow battled through the conditions and won. Now he has his own personal assistant, Flair.

SICK OF THIS: Tommy Dreamer keeps turning up the gross metre. His latest stunt was to dip into a bucket of his own vomit, wipe a bit on his face and give the mixture a taste. Then he got his butt whipped in a match against the Undertaker.

HARD CORE CHAMP: Bradshaw won the hardcore title Monday.

TITLE SHOT: Triple H has earned a title shot after beating Hulk Hogan.

NEW TAG CHAMPS: Rico turned his back on partner Rikishi, allowing Billy and Chuck to regain their tag-team titles.

DOUBLE JEOPARDY: Results from the Double Jeopardy show in Niagara Falls last week: Bodycount beat San Francisco Heat; Los Jalapeno pinned Fabian Stokes; Completely Cody Steele beat Lazzerus; the Hacker, accompanied by Tracy X, lost to Showtime Eric Young; Team Tornado defeated Tsugi Nami; Silver Rush lost to Marco Malaquais and Ruffy Silverstein; Sinn was pinned by Dangerboy X, who was pinned by Showtime Eric Young to become the FSPW Independent Champion. The next show is July 1 at Niagara Falls Optimist Park.

LADIES SPECTACULAR: The Fabulous Firebird Phoenix pinned Japanese Lady Star Sumie Sakai in an AWF main event last Sunday in Toronto. In other matches: Robin Knightwing, James Champagne and Jackal beat Joey Knight, Slade and the Squeegee Kid; Jackal retained the AWF title and won the NCW Quebec title when he beat Franky the Mobster; Jaguar Vijay Singh got the better of Piranha; Asylum and Silk wrestled to a no contest; Arizona cheated his way past the Codfather; Tony Mack and Mark Menezes beat Masamune and Mayhem; Kevin Grace beat Jerrick Miller. The AWF returns to Toronto, June 30 and July 1 at 3 p.m. for the CHIN International Picnic (Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place).
