Linda McMahon: No separate WCW show planned
By JOHN POWELL -- SLAM! Wrestling
During a media conference call today, WWF CEO Linda McMahon revealed that there are no plans to give World Championship Wrestling its own show in the near future.
The WWF will though commence with some WCW house shows and will broadcast three or four WCW pay-per-views this year. If the WWF presentations are popular, they will revisit the issue with television networks who are not as keen on wrestling programming as they were a year ago when ratings were high. McMahon said that the WWF doesn't believe that the current advertising market would cover the production costs of running another wrestling show.
McMahon also announced that to stem its slipping ratings, the WWF has given serious thought to making Smackdown! a live show like their Raw Is War flagship broadcast on Monday nights. McMahon blamed Internet sites for revealing Smackdown! happenings beforehand and therefore dealing a severe blow to Smackdown!'s weekly ratings.
