The next generation of sports entertainment wrestlers are a bunch of
Mat Rats.
Mat Rats is an international wrestling organization based in Calgary and
features wrestlers, all under 21 years old, in a music-video type of
environment.
The wrestlers wrestle, and the fans get to watch the carnage and groove to
the latest tunes.
The wrestlers are all gifted athletes, and also include the sons and
daughters of third- and fourth-generation wrestling superstars.
They've been trained by Ted Hart.
The host of Mat Rats is Natalie Neidhart, daughter of wrestling superstar
Jim (The Anvil) Neidhart and granddaughter of the legendary Stu Hart. Neidhart
is also a wrestler.
Calgary's Digital Artisans Group (DAG), the braintrust behind Mat Rats, is
moving full steam ahead with preparations to bring Mat Rats to television on a
regular basis.
DAG has been able to snare wrestling guru and former World Championship
Wrestling president Eric Bischoff and place him on the company's board of
directors.
Calgarians can experience Mat Rats this weekend with the Rave In The Ring
event at the Palace nightclub on the Stephen Avenue Mall.
Fans will get a chance to see the likes of wrestlers Ted (Terminator 3)
Hart, Nick Nog, Sean (White Lightning) White, TJ (Blue Chip) Wilson, Pete
Wilson and Vince (The Prince) Hall.
There will also be a match between Harry Smith, son of Davey Boy, and Rene
Dupree with colour commentary by Extreme Championship Wrestling's Joey Styles
and his sidekick Cyrus. Bischoff and wrestling commissioner Jason Hervey are
scheduled to be at Sunday's big event.
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and all HMV Music stores or at the
door.
