Wight gets Big chance to Show his stuff
By GLENN COLE -- Toronto Sun

Well, The Big Show is back. And from initial signs, it appears that Vince McMahon is determined to give Paul Wight a giant-sized push in the WWF.

When he first jumped to the WWF from the WCW a few years back, Wight's acquisition was hailed as a steal. There were those who felt that he was the second coming of Andre The Giant. It was, however, quickly determined otherwise.

The Big Show was anything but an immediate hit. In fact, the WWF quickly ran out of things for him to do and he disappeared to an Ohio-based circuit to work on his game.

He made his return at the Royal Rumble, one of the surprises on what was a successful pay-per-view. The Show's immediate feud will be with The Rock, which is about as high-profile as you get. It's all up to him to make it work this time.

CAN-CON: By far the best match of the RR was the Intercontinental title match in which Chris (Y2J) Jericho wrested the belt from the Canadian Crippler, Chris Benoit. An excellent display by two home-grown performers, both of whom escaped from the WCW. Another Canadian, Test, became the European champion while Toronto's Edge and Christian lost their tag-team belts to the Dudley Boyz ... Haku, who was let go by the WCW, has re-emerged in the WWF (with a wild new hairdo) to team up with Rikishi and feud with The Undertaker and Kane. Haku, who had been working as Meng in the WCW and was its Hardcore champion, did not have a contract with the Atlanta-based outfit and thus was a free agent ... X-Pac, who has been on the DL, will be back as soon as the WWF can work out a decent storyline for him ... Word is that ECW star Justin Credible is bound for the WWF. He was the forgettable Aldo Montoya in his initial WWF go-round ... Meanwhile, rumours that Rob Van Dam is WWF bound have been squelched ... One reason William Regal dropped his European belt to Test this past weekend is that he is suffering from a neck injury.

GOLDBERG LOOSE? Talk abounds that Bill Goldberg may become a free agent once the purchase of WCW is completed ... A TV station in Winston-Salem, N.C., reported this week that Scott Steiner has a court date in March. He is charged with misdemeanor assault ... Condolences to Sean Morley (WWF's Val Venis), whose mother passed away Sunday.

INDY ACTION: The IWF has a card tonight at 7 p.m. at the Polish Community Cultural Centre, 5681 Thorold Stone Road, in Niagara Falls. Billy Boogie takes on Eric Young in a feature bout.
