Stampede Wrestling off the air

Stampede Wrestling announced today that their television show on the 'A' Channel and Regina Cable has been discontinued until further notice.

Ross Hart, the promotion's vice-president, said that the decision was made because of the "rising television production costs that the promotion unfortunately could no longer absorb".

In a press release, Hart thanked Stampede fans for their viewership.

"We recognize that we had many loyal viewers throughout Western Canada and on StarChoice/ExpressVu and thank them for their support," he wrote. "At this time, Stampede Wrestling is going through financial restructuring and when completed, it is hoped that our television coverage will be return to these same airways bigger and better than ever".

For the remainder the year, fans in Calgary can continue to take in Stampede action live every two weeks at the Ogden Legion Auditorium.

Ross did have some good news in his statement. Available soon from the promotion will be new Stampede videos featuring exclusive footage of their inaugural cards in Calgary on April 2 and May 21, 1999. These will include matches in their entirety from both shows such as Tatanka vs Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Black Heart vs "Big Daddy" Marvin Pope, Greg "Pistol" Pawluk vs "Hot Shot" Johnny Devine, plus all your other favorites: Tiger Mahatma Khan, Principal Richard Pound, "Crazy Horse" Eddie Mustang, and many more.
