ECW gone from TNN

By JOHN F. MOLINARO -- SLAM! Wrestling

Extreme Championship Wrestling is homeless.

David Schwartz, a spokesman and publicist for The National Network (TNN), spoke with SLAM! Wrestling this afternoon and issued this statement:

"Our agreement with ECW has expired, and we were unable to come to terms on an extension."

When asked if TNN will air ECW one last time this Friday, Schwartz responded, "No, they're done. They are no longer on our air."

ECW received a stay of execution of sorts in late September when Vince McMahon, who shifted his flagship RAW program from the USA network to TNN on September 25, waived his exclusivity agreement with TNN. The WWF allowed ECW to keep their time slot on TNN until December or when they were able to sign a deal with a new network, whichever happened first.

When asked about the extension the WWF granted ECW, Schwartz said, "We can't comment on anything that has to do with the WWF in this regard. There was discussion about extending it and we were unable to come up with an extension."

Contacted by SLAM! Wrestling, Joey Styles - ECW's lead commentator - was tight-lipped on the situation. "I can't comment on any of ECW's legal matters. We will have an official statement up on our web site later today," he said.
