Grand Prix Wrestling takes a break
By GREG OLIVER -- SLAM! Wrestling
Sunday's Grand Prix Wrestling show in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia will be the last show for a while. The summer promotion is taking some time off for a variety of reasons.
"We're shutting down for just a couple of weeks, then I'm re-grouping with something else," said promoter
Emile Dupre.
"Some of the same guys will be back," he said, adding that he is considering bringing in the midgets and maybe some Japanese female wrestlers for the next tour, which will likely begin in early August.
"A lot of the guys I had here have jobs," he explained. "They took some leaves, three or four of them. It's leaving me short."
The weather in July is also a factor. "It gets awful hot in these ice arenas. They are not really insulated. It gets like an oven! In August, it starts to cool off."
Dupre hopes to have his plans finalized at the end of next week, and assured SLAM! Wrestling that his promotion will be back. "To be continued the first week of August with a lot of new attractions."
Chi Chi Cruz and Wildman Austin have been battling for the promotion's top title, competing in some hardcore and falls-count-anywhere matches.
