Grand Prix announces summer tour
By GREG OLIVER -- SLAM! Wrestling
You know that summer's almost here when Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling releases information about their summer tour.
"We're getting geared up to start another tour," promoter
Emile Dupre told SLAM! Wrestling.
This year's AGPW tour of the Maritimes begins on Friday, May 26 in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick. Dupre said that he is only planning to run five weeks, but that he did that last year too and ended up running all summer.
By the end of the tour, he expects to hit 30-35 different towns and cities across the Maritimes.
"Some of the towns we go there weekly, and they keep coming back," he explained.
The talent for the tour is almost all booked, and others expected in for different periods of time during the summer. Kurrgan will probably be main eventing, but Dupre is waiting to hear back from the Acadian Giant about when his tour of South Korea will end.
Wild Man Austin,
Cuban Assassin, Cliff MacDonald and Rene Rougeau will all be back from last year's tour. More names from Toronto and Calgary are expected as well.
Dupre said that he has to run an "affordable card."
"We can't use 20 guys on the card," he said. "Ten to twelve guys here is a good card."
Referee Frank Parker is really looking forward to his fifth year on tour. "I'm looking forward to getting back into action," Parker said. "I'm looking forward to seeing some of the talent coming in, plus working with some of the established talent."
A television deal for Grand Prix on ATV is still being discussed but nothing will likely happen until at least July.
