Holly claims European gold at WWF UK PPV
The WWF held their Rebellion pay-per-view Saturday in Sheffield,
England, and
the card went pretty-well as expected, except for one significant upset
-- Crash Holly upset William Regal to claim the WWF European title.

this report of the show.
WWF Rebellion opens with Mick Foley and Debra arriving in Sheffield in a
taxi. Foley and the 'puppies' of Debra make their way to the ring and we
have Jim Ross and Tazz on commentary. Foley talks about how good it is
to be
in England (cheap pop) and says on the way over he and Debra thought
that
they would make the Main Event a no DQ, no count-out match for the WWF
Title! Kurt Angle, the champion, then makes his way out and he is livid.
Kurt asks a fellow legend (Foley) to reconsider. Debra says the
commissioner's decision is final!
Match 1: Table Match -- Dudleyz vs. Edge and Christian vs. T &
A
The Dudleys get a good face pop while E & C get a good pop too. But T &
A
arenÕt over at all. Albert and D-Von start what proves to be a very
entertaining encounter. Edge and Christian eliminate Albert by pushing
him
through the table. Dudleys and Edge and Christian fight for a bit and
then
comes the usual stuff from the guys from Dudleyville. D-Von goes up top
for
the WASSSSSSUUUUUUP and nails it on Edge. Buh Buh says: DVON GET THE
TABLES!!!! E & C are down, the Dudleyz set up a table, call for the 3D.
Christian prevents Edge from going through a table but then Christian
himself goes through the wood.
WINNERS: Dudley Boys
Match 2: Lita vs. Ivory for Womens Title
Michael Cole interviews Lita where she says sheÕs going to win the
title. Pretty typical womenÕs match where Stephen Richards interferes to
cost Lita the title. Richards distracts her but she nails him, but he
gets back up and
grabs Ivory by the arm giving her leverage for the count. WINNER: Ivory.
Match 3: Steve Blackman vs. Perry Saturn for HC Title
The Rock is interviewed. He talks about 'candy bums' and how he will
kick
Kurt Angle all over Sheffield seeing as it is nearly Christmas. Saturn
comes
out (without Terri), then Blackman comes out to a good pop. This match
was
what we have come to expect from hardcore matches. Blackman used his
kendo sticks, nailing Saturn. Blackman hit a cross body suplex and
covered Saturn only for a two-count. Blackman went for an inside cradle,
but again only got a two-count. He then scored the pin after hitting
Saturn with a chair. WINNER: Blackman.
Match 4: William Regal vs. Crash Holly for the European Title
Regal cut a heel promo saying how dirty the English are (just stating
facts
I guess!). 'Regal sucks! Regal sucks' the crowd chanted. The match
reached climax when there were two close calls, one which ended with
Regal's foot on the ropes, then another with Crash's feet on the ropes.
The ref saw both and ordered the match to continue. Then Crash rolled up
Regal for the 1,23, and we have a NEW European Champion!
WINNER: Crash Holly.
Match 5: Eddy Guerrero & Dean Malenko vs. Chyna & The One Billy
Gunn
The Radicals were booed while the One and Chyna got a nice pop. Eddy and
Billy opened a extremely boring encounter. Billy tried to win this match
by the JackHammer and the FameAsser but Eddy broke the pin. Finally
Billy got a
cross body and put us out of my misery.
WINNERS: Chyna and Billy
Match 6: Kane vs. Y2J
Kane had the usual pyro while Jericho was in top form. 'Welcome to
England is Jericho' he said, and the Sheffield Arena proved to be full
of Jericholics. Y2J was the one
doing all the promotional stuff on radio and TV around England, so a win
is expected. Jericho and Kane nailed each other with punches. The match
was good, Y2J tried for Walls of Jericho and the place went nuts, but he
couldnÕt get Kane over. Kane went for his neck, Jericho broke the hold.
He went for the Lionsault but Kane got his knees up. Kane got up, and
chokeslammed Jericho.
WINNER: Kane
Match 7: Hardyz vs. Right To Censor for the WWF tag titles
We have already seen one title change here tonight, will we see another?
Backstage Trish and Lita got into a fight, where Trish's top was ripped
off.
All was left was her bra! Back to the ring, RTC got great heel heat,
while
the Hardys were very over. It had a very quick opening and the Hardys
took
it to Bull and Mr. Goodfather. Jeff pulled off a hurricarana on Bull.
Later
on, Jeff hits a corkscrew moonsault. Then Poetry In Motion!! What a
move!
Twist of Fate by Matt while Jeff got the swanton bomb on Goodfather. But
the ref is distracted by Bull (there was actually a reason for the ref
to be
looking away, unlike Tim White on RAW last week). Val Venis climbs to
the
top and hits the money shot. Bull then covers Matt and RTC retain.
WINNER: RTC
Match 8: Undertaker vs. Benoit
Before the match, the Radicals take out Undertaker from behind
backstage.
Benoit comes out, but Undertaker fails to show after Kid Rock is played
twice. Finally the American BadAss comes limping down and Benoit goes to
work on him. They go to the outside where Undertaker catches Benoit in
mid-flight and rams his back into the steel post. Undertaker can only
get a two count. Benoit works on 'TakerÕs knee and you can see
Undertaker is in pain. Then Benoit applied the Figure Four but 'Taker
wouldn't give up. Benoit went to the top and went for a flying headbutt
right on his knee. Undertaker was able to cradle Chris Benoit for the
three count.
WINNER: Undertaker
Match 9: MAIN EVENT: The Rock vs. Rikishi vs. Stone Cold vs. Kurt
Angle for the WWF Championship
First out was the Phat Man, then the champion to a good ovation. After a
pause The Rock came out to a nice pop but Austin got a bigger one.
Austin and
Rikishi paired off leaving Kurt and Rocky inside. Samoan Drop on Angle
then
a double team by Austin and Rock. Angle started to leave with the World
Title only to be caught by the Rock. Austin got Rikishi for a two count.
Later, Austin hit a Stunner on Rocky and a few minutes after that Rock
Bottom on Stone Cold. Just as Rock was going for the win, Rikishi pulled
the
ref out. Edge and Christian ran in but got a can of whoop ass from Stone
Cold. The Radicals then came running out. Chaos ensued until Kurt Angle
got his finisher on Rikishi.
WINNER: Kurt Angle retains
