Ring reality is exposed

By GLENN COLE -- Toronto Sun
The secrets of pro wrestling are about to be revealed -- again.

NBC will have a special show tomorrow at 7 p.m. -- Exposed: The Secrets of Pro Wrestling -- which promises to unmask all those deep and dark mysteries.

There were microphones placed under the ring! Some wrestlers reveal how they put on their special holds! Imagine that!

Many expenses were spared to bring those viewers who are a little skeptical about the reality of grappling -- or reality itself -- the full picture.

Guess when you lose NFL rights, you have to do something. But this?

HALLOWEEN HAVOC: There was a legitimate reason for WCW to repeat the Diamond Dallas Page-Goldberg championship match on Nitro this week.

A lot of people in the United States who bought the pay-per-view card last Sunday night never got to see it. The pay-per-view, which was the best the WCW has had this year, ran over the three-hour time limit for which it was scheduled. Some cable operators pulled the plug, leaving a good number of wrestling fans in the dark. The only bad match on the card was the Hulk Hogan-Ultimate Warrior affair, which was too predictable and quite boring, actually. Fans were strangely quiet for the affair.

AT HOME: Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Kane and Rocky Maivia highlight the card at the SkyDome next Saturday at 2 p.m. Also on the card is a Toronto street fight as Mankind battles Ken Shamrock. The WWF also has a show in Buffalo Saturday night ... The CWA has a card Tuesday at 8 p.m., at the Limelight night club, 250 Adelaide St. W. Wild Bill Skullion, CWA champ Joey War Eagle, Hurricane Hugo, The Destroyer, Ricky (Soulman) Johnson and The Bruiser are among those wrestling. Fans must be of legal drinking age to attend ... The EWF has two cards at Georgian College in Barrie on Nov. 6, in which Dan Severn will be featured ... RWA's Ring 'N' Ears II is Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. at the Opera House, 735 Queen St. E. L'Artiste faces Jamie Jackson in a cruiserweight title match. The winner meets Gord Rease, Dane Gerris and Custom Made Man in a four-way ladder match.

HERE AND THERE: Vader has left the WWF and will be wrestling in Japan. He never seemed to find a niche after he left the WCW and seemed to be in constant trouble with WWF officials because of his weight ... The WWF's Raw will be on TSN at 9 p.m. this Monday ... A number of wrestling sheets are saying that Davey Boy Smith wants out of the WCW and is trying to return to WWF ... Barry Windham, who recently won the NWA New England crown, is heading back to WCW, likely to become part of the Four Horseman ... DDP upset Bret Hart to take the WCW U.S. title on Nitro ... Shane McMahon almost had people believing that he was upset with his father last Monday on Raw ... There are continued reports of Scott Hall's escapades, including a confrontation in a bar with Marcus Bagwell.
