WWF mania takes a hold of Honest Ed

By ROB GRANATSTEIN -- Toronto Sun
At 83 years young, Ed Mirvish proved he's in shape and ready to rumble -- Honest.

With the World Wrestling Federation in town, the Honest One found himself face-to-face with a bad-guy wrestler looking for a tussle.

"Why do they call you Honest Ed when you're obviously trying to move in on my girl -- Sable," said bad guy grappler Marvellous Marc Mero, who then challenged Honest Ed to an arm wrestle.
The Rock advises Honest Ed
"I know right now the entire world wants to know what The Rock thinks about Honest Ed. You're doing the Headbangers match, and after thinking about it, The Rock feels like this:
Knowing the Headbangers like The Rock does, best of luck to you."
"Those guys are pretty decent guys. And if all else fails, holler for The Rock and I'll take care of you."
ED: "I'll head to the hills if anything happens."

"Rocky, I'll tell you, the only one I usually take advice from is my wife -- but I'll listen to you."

"I'll go easy on you," Mirvish responded, to cheers from the gathered throng.

With help from the stunning Sable, a heroine to all of the WWF's male fans, Mirvish pinned the wrestling behemoth.

"It was a piece of cake," said Mirvish, adding it was nice to have Sable in his corner.

"He's the man, he's the legend. I'm honored to meet him," Sable said of her new partner, the Honest One.

WWF stars Dok Hendrix, along with Mero and Sable, hit Honest Ed's yesterday to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Honest Ed's, and whip the assembled mat fans into a frenzy ahead of last night's WWF card at the SkyDome.

But the biggest attraction of them all was Canada's own Owen Hart, the WWF's European champion.

Wrestling fanatics formed a line all the way out the door as they waited up to six hours to get an autograph from their heroes.

"It was insane meeting Owen Hart. I couldn't even think straight," said a jubilant Andy O'Brien, 19.
