Rude fights with the law

By GLENN COLE -- Toronto Sun
Some news and views from the world of professional wrestling, where people seem to be jumping out of their clothes and can't keep out of trouble..

HOW RUDE: Boys will be boys, even if they are adults.

Rick Rude, who recently jumped to World Championship Wrestling from the World Wrestling Federation, apparently will be grappling with the American justice system soon.

Rude was involved in an altercation at a Buffalo hotel after Monday Nitro this week and WGRZ-2, Buffalo's NBC affiliate, reported that police were called.

There's a court date next week.

CENSOR, CENSOR: The lads at TSN were busy on Monday night, tidying Monday Night Raw before it hit air at midnight.

There was a little matter of a strip-poker game involving Shawn Michaels and his De-Generation X pals, Chyna and Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Chyna was winning, which is probably just as well, and Michaels was down to his skivvies, lying on top of the ring ropes. What we didn't see was Michaels displaying his butt to the crowd in Portland, Me.

We caught a glimpse of Sable with a minimum -- and we do mean minimum -- of clothing after removing a sack dress she had worn to the ring.

And there was a little matter of censoring some rather salty language, some of it delivered by WWF boss Vince McMahon after Steve Austin delighted the crowd by knocking McMahon on his butt at the end of the show.

And if what we hear is true, on the Dec. 22 Raw, both Helmsley and Michaels will be as scantily clad as can be. It is unlikely that will hit air, but the people in Lowell, Mass., probably saw a lot more of Michaels than they ever wanted to see.

NEW CHAMP: Austin handed the I-C belt to Rocky Maivia and announced he was going after Michaels' heavyweight title. That is scheduled to be the main bout March 29 at Wrestlemania in Boston, by which time it is hoped Austin will be able to wrestle ... Watch for Helmsley to become European champion, but don't expect much action in the bout against Michaels ... Bret Hart, who was in Buffalo for Nitro, likely will do an interview segment at Starrcade, but will not wrestle. His first house-show appearance will be in Boston at the end of January ... Crush is having contract problems with the WWF and reportedly was unhappy with the handling of Hart's departure .

RAW DROPPED: No more WWF programming on CKVR, which quietly dropped Raw when its contract expired earlier this month ... Buzz in the U.S. is that media magnate Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox, may buy into the WWF. That would put Murdoch in a battle against his old adversary Ted Turner. Murdoch does not like to lose to Turner ... With the debut of WCW's new Thursday night show, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon grappling shows will disappear from WTBS.
