Titles, attitudes and alliances

By GLENN COLE -- Toronto Sun
News and views on the ever-changing world of professional wrestling:

NEWS: Bret Hart wins the WWF title for the fifth time.

VIEWS: Hart excellently executed the game plan he set out when he returned to the WWF last year after sitting out for a few months following his Wrestlemania XII loss to Shawn Michaels. Ironic that Michaels, the special guest referee, had a hand in Hart's win last Sunday over the Undertaker.

NEWS: Lex Luger racks Hulk Hogan for WCW title.

VIEWS: It happened on Nitro this past Monday as Luger fought off four members of the NWO. But will Luger hold onto the title tonight on Viewer's Choice (8 p.m.) when he meets Hogan at Sturgis, S.D, in Road Wild?

NEWS: Steve Austin wins WWF Inter-Continental crown.

VIEWS: He was destined to do so, but the victory over Owen Hart looked kind of funny. Austin legitimately was hurt and the WWF can ill-afford to have him out for a long time.

NEWS: Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Syxx introduced as the Wolfpack at recent WCW card.

VIEWS: Finally, we might be seeing a development in the whole NWO scenario which has become a touch stagnant recently.

NEWS: Shawn Michaels turns heel.

VIEWS: Michaels told fans to "go to hell" on Monday Night Raw this week after they booed him. Fact is Michaels has been shunning fans recently, apparently refusing to sign autographs. He was getting booed long before Monday, which bothered him. His return to a bad guy was the next logical step.

NEWS: Brian Pillman in a dress.

VIEWS: As Monty Python would say: "He's not even a proper woman." Pillman angle would be a perfect modern-day Python sketch.

NEWS: OnTV (CHCH) is dropping Nitro at end of the this month.

VIEWS: Montreal's CFCF is dropping the hour-long Canadian WCW show as well because of poor ratings, There is word that TSN is picking up Nitro and will run it on Thursdays at midnight. In the U.S. this past Monday, it was Nitro 4.4, Raw 2.5 in the ratings war. Fascinating.

NEWS: Nation of Domination turns on Ahmed Johnson and pounds him out of the NOD.

VIEWS: Johnson never seemed comfortable as NOD member and may have requested the change back to a good guy himself. He's better in that role.

NEWS: Sgt. Slaughter is the new WWF commissioner.

VIEWS: Long-time favorite returns to Vince McMahon's nest. When last seen, Slaughter was foundering in the AWF which eventually went belly up. His return is welcome.
