Top WCW stars for top dollars

By GLENN COLE -- Toronto Sun
  Beware the Ides of March.

And if indeed the WCW will use March 15 as its date to invade the Air Canada Centre, it had better make sure it has all its big guns on hand.

Leave Jim (Hacksaw) Duggan at home with Jim Powers and the rest of the guys who appear on Worldwide all the time.

If Toronto wrestling fans are going to pay top money, nothing less than Bret Hart, Sting, Goldberg and the Outsiders will do. A debut on Nitro would be nice.

The March 15 date is not etched in stone. There is a possibility the show will be two weeks earlier. In fact, March 1 was the preferred date, but complications arose. The exact date is supposed to be announced next week.

And count on this: The WWF will have a card at the SkyDome around the same time.

SUNNY SETS: The provocative Sunny is gone from the WWF and has rejoined her husband Chris Candido -- remember the Bodydonnas? -- in ECW ... Jay Leno and Diamond Dallas Page vs. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff is the featured bout on WCW's pay-per-view at 8 tonight on Viewer's Choice. It's your money, but some people think it may be the worst pay-per-view ever ... Memo to Vince McMahon: If rumors are right and Chris Benoit becomes a free agent, get him ... Adam Copeland is playing that brooding Edge character to near perfection ... One word comes to mind about Sting -- boring ... The Ultimate Warrior now is scheduled to make his WCW grand entrance on Aug. 17.

FRIDAY NIGHT FIRE: Ms B. Haven teams with The Bruiser to battle Shotgun and Billy Boogie in a best-of-three tag-team affair on the next Empire Wrestling Federation card next Friday night at the Burlington Crown Centre (3348 Harvester Road). Also appearing are Ace Nevada, The Masked Evangelist, Canadian Lighting Jim Fury and The Mad Dogs. Bell time is 8 p.m. ... Edge will battle Total Lee Awesome in the headline bout at the RWA's Steeltown Showdown at the Hamilton Boys' and Girls' Club a week from tonight. Longtime RWA star Pete Rokk will take on Seattle Kidd for the RWA title while Hollywood Hunks and Raquel take on the All Knighters and C.J. Lane in a mixed tag-team bout.

HERE AND THERE: The Bushwackers and Greg Valentine will be touring Newfoundland later this month as will Sean Sewell, Val Venis' former tag-team partner ... Abdullah the Butcher, 61, is working in New England and will be wrestling Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. at Appleby's Sports Bar and Grill, (2787 Eglinton Ave. E). Phone is 266-1969. Advance tickets now are available for $10 ... Nothing new in Ric Flair's situation -- he's still inactive ... Paul (The Butcher) Vachon is back in the ring in Nova Scotia this weekend, as is Leo Burke, who has trained several of the newer WWF wrestlers ... Dustin Runnels and Barry Windham are appearing more in the NWA than the WWF these days ... Tennessee Lee is on his way out of the WWF.
