Heyman: Mysterio wants out

By KEVIN NIELSEN -- SLAM! Wrestling
A surprising twist has developed in the WCW-Raven story that was first broken by Mark Madden on WCW Live. Apparently Rey Mysterio Jr. joined the disenfranchised group of wrestlers and asked for his release from WCW according to ECW owner and chief promoter Paul Heyman.

Heyman confirmed reports that said Eric Bischoff held a meeting on Monday before Nitro to talk to the wrestlers who had become frustrated and for criticizing him in public.

According to Bob Ryder of 1Wrestling.com among the names being singled as troublemakers were Raven, Konnan and Public Enemy during the meeting.

Bischoff went on to say that anyone who had a problem could leave the company at the meeting.

The only wrestler who immediately took Bischoffs offer was Raven.

Raven had said publicly that he would leave WCW and return to ECW as soon as his contract expired in 10 months.

"I don't know the status of Raven as of this hour," Heyman said this afternoon. "I really can't talk to him further than I have without him getting his release because that would be illegal."

"So until he's released, he's working for WCW."

He also said, "From what I understand (Billy) Kidman, Konnan and (Rey) Mysterio attempted to take him(Bischoff) up on it (his offer) but it was to late."
