Match threatens Austin

By MR. X -- Ottawa Sun
PARTS UNKNOWN -- It looks like it's in with the new and out with the Cold at tomorrow's WWF SummerSlam pay-per-view.

A title reign for Hunter Hearst Helmsley was put into motion at last week's RAW when Mankind was added to the main event, a triple-threat match between HHH, Mankind and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The three-way match likely will see Helmsley pin Mankind for the belt, with Austin helpless to do anything about it. Word is that Austin did not want to job Helmsley, so with a three-way, Austin can bow out, do whatever movie or TV project he wants, and then come back and say that he never was pinned.

It would be shocking if guest ref Jesse "The Body" Ventura comes out of this as the bad guy in his home state.

AROUND THE WWF: Another event worth watching at SummerSlam is The Rock vs. Billy Gunn with loser forced to kiss the winner's butt ... Look for Road Dogg to be added to the hardcore title match between Big Bossman and Al Snow ... Crash Holly, introduced as Bob Holly's cousin last week, is Erin O'Grady ... The ECW's Dudleys are WWF-bound ... An item on George

Michael's Sports Machine suggested that ABC has offered the WWF $100 million to move RAW to a different night, avoiding a conflict with Monday Night Football ... Mr. Hughes, the former bodyguard, is 100-lbs. lighter these days and will get a WWF tryout ... The Sports Doctor will have D-Lo Brown as his guest today at 10:40 a.m. on OSR 1200 Radio ...

Smackdown makes its debut on Thursday at 8 p.m on WSBK ... Chris Jericho is just one guy,

but he will be a burst of energy for the WWF at a time when things were getting a little boring. Jericho certainly is more entertaining than Paul (Big Show) Wight, who looks stiff and bored.

WCW BITS: Now that Hulk Hogan is back and the Hollywood part of his name has been discarded, the old wag the finger, boot to the face and legdrop finishing move is back. The Hulkster polished off Kevin Nash at Road Wild last week in a match that got horrendous reviews ... Brian Adams, the former Crush, is the first member of The KISS Army, to be called The Demon. KISS will appear on Nitro Monday.

Finally a good reason to tune in ... Lenny Lane is the new cruiserweight champ after beating Rey Mysterio Jr. on Thunder ... Sid Vicious has always been a personal favourite, even if he can't wrestle his way out of a wet paper bag. If nothing else, he gives the WCW a strong softball team ... Watch for Goldberg in Universal Soldier: The Return.

WRAP UP: RAW beat Nitro in the ratings war for the 40th week in a row, 6.6 to 3.3 ... ECW makes its debut on The Nashville Network (TNN) Friday at 8 p.m.
