Hogan, WCW might take one on chin

By MR. X -- Ottawa Sun
PARTS UNKNOWN -- Hulk Hogan has been body slammed and elbow smashed more times than he can remember.

But never has he faced an opponent with such a deadly hold in his arsenal. Hogan, known as Hollywood in the wrestling wars, will team up with WCW boss Eric Bischoff in a match against Diamond Dallas Page and the Tonight Show's tower of terror, Jay Leno, with his deadly chinlock.

Enough is enough.

Surely, WCW isn't stupid enough to thrust Leno into a main event situation. But, seemingly, at its Road Wild pay-per-view next weekend, Leno will be in the ring. While we accept wrestling for what it is -- a fast-paced soap opera of athleticism and show business combined -- Leno would seem much better suited as a manager or guest referee. Don't knock Leno -- he's apparently donating his paycheque to charity -- but it sounds like the WCW is desperately groping for some ratings. We'll see if it works.

AROUND THE WWF: Stone Cold Steve Austin and Undertaker are the tag-team champs. Can they co-exist? ... The bikini contest at Fully Loaded was just that, fully loaded. Jackie was a knockout in her eensie, weensie piece of fabric, stunning viewers with a flash of unexposed flesh. Sable then exposed herself with black handprints substituting for a bikini top. Sable was the winner by the audience response, but was disqualified the next night on RAW for her improper attire. Sable's character may take a strange twist, with one report suggesting she may be heading for some sort of truce with Luna and a role in the Jackyl's Parade of Oddities. By the way, Sable's real name is Rena Mero ... Val Venis' character is picking up steam. Look for porn star Jenna Jameson to enter the picture soon ... Tiger Ali Singh will emerge as a heel during Monday's RAW. It's a takeoff on the old Million Dollar Man character ... The WWF has a show in Montreal tomorrow. There's a charity softball game at Dorval's St. Charles Park in the afternoon ... Dan Severn has dropped out of the Brawl For All, replaced by The Godfather. Perhaps Severn saw Dr. Death Steve Williams get the living bejeezus pummelled out of him by Bart Gunn ... At Fully Loaded, Venis beat Jeff Jarrett; D-Lo Brown beat X-Pac; time expired in a superb Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Rocky Maivia 2-of-3 fall match (look for Shawn Michaels as a possible ref in a Summer Slam rematch); Scorpio and Farooq beat Bradshaw and Funk; Mark Henry beat Vader; DOA defeated LOD; Owen Hart outlasted Ken Shamrock in a dungeon match. A funny twist to the event had Vince McMahon responding to Undertaker's lateness by assigning the Brooklyn Brawler as Austin's partner. Thank goodness, the 'Taker eventually showed up ... TSN has signed a five-year deal to show Monday Night RAW live at 9 p.m. The arrangement takes effect in October and runs through 2003. The network has also scheduled this Monday's RAW for a 9 p.m. start ... Rumor has it two of the WWF's stars, The Edge and Val Venis, could make an appearance in Ottawa next weekend to promote the WWF's show here in November.

WCW BITS: The Nitro Girls are featured in this month's Penthouse magazine ... Several members of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team have aligned themselves in their own nWo battle. Team Hollywood consists of Barry Larkin, Brett Tomko, Brook Fordyce and Pokey Reece. They're outmanned by the Wolfpac, which includes Dimitri Young, Willie Green, Sean Casey, Gabe White, Danny Graves, Melvin Nieves and Eddie Taubensee ... We should know soon whether Ric Flair will return as a member of the Four Horsemen, or whether he becomes McMahon's corporate champion. Whhhhhoooooo!
