Hart wins title back
By JOHN POWELL --SLAM! Sports
Four days after losing the U.S. title to the "Total Package" Lex Luger,
Bret "Hit Man" Hart has regained WCW's second-most prestigious strap.
In the dynamic main event match on an unusually intense Thunder broadcast,
Luger clotheslined Hart over the ropes to the arena floor. An incensed Hit
Man grabbed a steel chair diving back into the ring. Quick on the draw,
Luger laid another neck-snapping clothesline on Hart before he had a chance
to use the chair as a weapon.
Turnabout is fair play thinks The Total Package hefting the chair in his
hands. Hart crawled away begging for mercy. As Luger was about to strike
The Hit Man, referee Billy Silverman began a tug of war with Luger over the
illegal object.
Hart leapt at the opening shoving Luger into Silverman. The two collided
and Luger's head struck the chair. The Hit Man DDT'd The Total Package on
the steel chair dragging a woozy Silverman out of the corner to lay down
the count. Silverman's hand struck the canvass twice. Incredibly, Luger
kicked out draining his last ounce of energy.
From that point on the win was elementary. Hart dragged Luger into the
middle of the ring slapping on the Sharp Shooter. However, Luger did not
voluntarily tap out. Silverman dropped Luger's hand three times then asked
for the bell declaring Hart the new United States Heavyweight Champion.
Score one for the Torture Rack. Score one for the Sharp Shooter. You can
bet this battle of the submission maneuvers is far from over.
