Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2014 announced

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
The Class of 2014 for the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame will have a significantly higher cost for flights, as two of the living inductees call Hawaii home -- and it's quite the trek from there to Amsterdam, NY. But for "Magnificent" Don Muraco and "Mr. Wrestling #2" Johnny Walker, it will be worth it to make the journey and receive their induction rings, along with other living inductees, "The Masked Superstar" Bill Eadie, and Don Fargo.

Back and forth repartee keeps Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame induction hopping

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
JOHNSTOWN, NY - Part of the magic of attending the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame induction ceremony is the interaction between the wrestlers, especially once they get on the microphone.
In essence, everyone seems to have a story on everyone else, and that was evident Saturday night at the PWHF's 12th ceremony.

Sammartino goes over at the Hall of Fame

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
AMSTERDAM, NY -- There were no hard feelings for the 2012 Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame inductees, Wendi Richter, Dominic Denucci and Superfly Jimmy Snuka when they were overshadowed by a man picking up his 2002 induction ring. Not when that man was The Man for so long -- Bruno Sammartino.

The French Angel was more man than monster

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
Maurice Tillet -- The French Angel -- was one of wrestling's biggest stars in the late 1930s and the 1940s, and provided some wonderful copy by the newspapermen of the day. The St. Louis Post Dispatch, reporting on Tillet's win over Leo Lefebvre on March 19, 1940, provides one such example: "The 'Angel,' stripped, proved to be a misshapen specimen of manhood. True, his big hideous head scared the women around the ringside, and probably would alarm even Boris Karloff. He has a barrel-like chest, a long torso, but his arms did not seem possessed of unusual strength and his legs were the legs of a 36-year-old man."

Afa just Wild about PWHF induction

By BLAINE VAN DER GRIEND - SLAM! Wrestling
The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame is in for a wild ride in 2012, as Afa and Sika Anoa'i are set to be inducted. And the only thing wilder than a Wild Samoan is two of them.
"The hall of fame is the greatest acknowledgment that an athlete can receive," Afa told SLAM! Wrestling. "It makes all the years worth it. I personally loved wrestling and it has been good to me and my family, so to be included in any hall of fame, to me, means that I have made my mark and legacy."

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
Dominic Denucci has led a rich, fulfilling life, and has constantly been praised as one of the truly nice guys in professional wrestling. Therefore, he is perhaps an ... interesting choice for the Dominic DeNucci Roast & Luncheon in Pittsburgh in another week, a fundraiser for the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Ohhhh what a hall of fame rush

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
AMSTERDAM, NY - These days. a tag team is rarely put in the main spot. But Saturday night, at the 2011 induction ceremony for the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, it was a real rush to see the Road Warriors, with manager Paul Ellering, on the top of the card.
Road Warrior Animal (Joe Laurinaitis) and Ellering, in attendance at the 10th induction ceremony, were gracious during their acceptance speech, paying tribute as well to their late colleague, Road Warrior Hawk (Michael Hegstrand).

Savage remembered around Hall of Fame weekend

By GREG OLIVER - SLAM! Wrestling
AMSTERDAM, NY - Normally, the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame induction weekend in Amsterdam, NY is a celebration of achievements. This year, it's a more sombre affair, following the death of 2009 inductee Randy "Macho Man" Savage in a car crash on Friday. At the Impact Wrestling show at the local high school and around the hotel, people who knew him talked about Savage.

Ellering deservedly shares in laurels for Road Warriors

By MARSHALL WARD - SLAM! Wrestling
It was in a dream that Paul Ellering first envisioned himself as a manager.
"I think it was while I was in wrestling camp that I had a premonition-like dream, seeing myself not as a wrestler, but managing wrestlers," Paul Ellering recently told SLAM! Wrestling from his sports bar in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. "I started out as a wrestler, wrestling for five years on my own, but it wasn't until Ole (Anderson) gave me the opportunity to manage did I say to myself, 'Yeah, that's what I'm supposed to do.'"

BLAINE VAN DER GRIEND - SLAM! Wrestling

Orndorff tops Wonderful Hall of Fame class

By BLAINE VAN DER GRIEND - Producer, SLAM! Wrestling
AMSTERDAM, NY -- The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame is considered by some as the only legitimate hall of fame in pro wrestling today, because it's the only one where wrestlers must receive votes to be inducted. It currently houses a who's who of wrestling greats from Bruno Sammartino to Hulk Hogan to Bret Hart to Roddy Piper. And on Saturday night, a new "Wonderful" class was added to that elite list.

By STEVEN JOHNSON - SLAM! Wrestling
FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY -- When last seen on national TV, David Shults -- "Dr. D" -- was teaching ABC-TV reporter John Stossel a lesson about whether wrestling was "fake." In one of wrestling's most infamous mainstream incidents, Shults slapped Stossel during a 1984 segment on the 20/20 newsmagazine, a blow that led to lawsuits and has been the subject of wrestling chatter ever since.
