Former pro wrestler and promoter Joe Bailey passed away on Sunday, June 16, at the age of 59 from cancer. He owned Bad 2 the Bone Pro Wrestling out of Bardstown, Kentucky. Joe was the father of pro wrestler Joseph Carl "J.C." Bailey, Jr., who competed in Combat Zone Wrestling and IWA Mid-South,and died on August 30, 2010 from a brain aneurysm at the age of 27.

On this date in 2009, one of the best wrestlers in history, Japan’s Mitsuharu Misawa, died in the ring during a match. Misawa took a belly-to-back suplex and was knocked unconscious -- he was taken to a hospital, but never recovered, and his death was called later that night. Today is the 54th birthday of Terry "Magnum T.A." Allen. For you youngsters out there, Allen was one of the most popular wrestlers in the NWA during the mid-'80s who had epic feuds with the Four Horsemen and then afterwards with Nikita Koloff. It seemed that Allen was on track to win the NWA Heavyweight Championship, but a major automobile accident in 1986 ended his career many years too soon. Though he never competed in the WWE, it would not be surprising to see him one day inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame. Yabba dabba doo! WWE announced Wednesday that it will be teaming with Warner Brothers on an animated Flintsones movie, that will revolve around a storyline about the birth of WWE in prehistoric times. Naturally, some WWE wrestlers will be voicing some of the characters. It is set for a 2015 release.

The International Olympic Committee announced that amateur wrestling is one of three finalists for a spot in the 2020 Olympic Games, following meetings in St. Petersburg, Russia today. Baseball/softball and squash will compete with wrestling for the final spot. Wakeboarding, wushsu, and roller sports did not make the cut.

Grable put off the operation so she could attend the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend, where she was inducted into the women's wrestling category.
Missy Hyatt is writing a new book about her career. Unlike her first book -- Missy Hyatt: First Lady of Pro Wrestling -- it is not a tell-all, but more of a behind-the-scenes stories. She is writing it herself, and relying on Dennis Brent, who published the World Class and WCW magazines for help with the editing.
