Boobirds get Cena fired up
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

John Cena

John Cena has heard the boos. But boos or cheers, he really doesn't care.

"It's great," says WWE champion Cena, who will face Triple H in the main event of next Sunday's Wrestlemania in Chicago. "It's better than hearing nothing. From the moment I got to express my personality, I've never cared about what anybody thinks.

"If they want to tell me to go to hell ... if that doesn't fire me up, nothing will.

"But I still want to work hard for those kids who say, 'Yo, that's my guy.' I'm just being me."

Don't get him wrong, Cena likes his current role.

"I was raised on the concept of hustle and hard work," he says. "And if people attach themselves to that, that's great. I am what I am, straight up.

"Triple H is quote, unquote a heel. He's himself. There are points when he speaks where you laugh and like him. But when he's in the ring, you don't like him."

Cena, who won the WWE back from Edge earlier this year, has enjoyed the rivalry.

"I don't think you've seen the last of Cena vs. Edge," he says. "Something must have bitten him in the ass in 2006 because he's really stepped up his game."

Cena is looking forward to facing Triple H.

"This is the biggest match of my career," says Cena, who in his first Wrestlemania appearance faced The Big Show at Wrestlemania 20. It's a lot harder to be champion and defend. Wrestlemania is usually not a good outcome for champions. Those who walk in (as champs), often don't walk out (as champs)."

- WWE will cut its Canadian schedule down this year. Smackdown! live events go to B.C. -- Kelowna on May 27 and Kamloops on May 28. In the only Ontario summer date, London gets a RAW live event on July 8, with a Smackdown! live event also July 8 in Winnipeg. Toronto gets the Unforgiven pay-per-view on Sept. 17. Ottawa could get skipped, but there's big news for Montreal. Stay tuned.

- Great to see Stone Cold Steve Austin return to chug a few beers at Saturday Night's Main Event. It would be a mistake for WWE not to involve him in Wrestlemania. Give Shane McMahon credit for one helluva brawl in his street fight against Shawn Michaels. Vince McMahon pulled off another version of the Survivor Series screwjob by signalling for the bell as soon as Shane locked Michaels in a Sharpshooter.

- The Blackjacks (Lanza and Mulligan) will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Tony Atlas and William "The Refrigerator" Perry will go in. I get the local connection (Chicago), but putting The Fridge in really trivializes the importance of a Hall of Fame induction.

- Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams will sing America the Beautiful at Wrestlemania. P.O.D. will perform Rey Mysterio's theme song.

- WWE has released Rosey (Matt Anoai and will bring back Test (Andrew Martin).

- Raven should be back in action with TNA soon. Speculation has him facing Larry Zbyszko at the Lockdown.

- The First Lady of Hardcore LuFisto was on hand to beat Portia Perez at CPW's March 19 show in Hull. In the main event, Tray Hugh Mongus and MVP Michael Von Payton fought to a draw. Also, Player Uno beat Kid Supreme; Frank "The Beast" Bradley beat Pistola; The Twin Terrors vs. Zack Storm and Ryan Rush was a No Contest; Velvet Jones and "The Prince of Persia" Rahim Ali beat The Freak" Zakk Manson and Stupified. The next event is April 8, at 7 p.m., with Aftershock facing The Twin Terrors in the main event. Tray Hugh Mongus will face an opponent selected by Von Payton; Player Uno vs. Alex Moore vs. Stupified vs. Kid Supreme; and Pierre Khoury vs. Roy Stevens. There will also be a contract signing of Wild Dangerous Dan vs. Guy Sauriol in a Steel Cage match for Night of Champions II on May 6 at the Sabourin Arena in Hull

- The Honkytonk Man will face Beautiful Bobby Jay in the main event of the IWM show April 1, at 8 p.m., at Winnipeg's Doubles Fun Club, in the Travelodge on Fermor. Among the other matches: Zack Mercury vs. Hotshot Johnny Devine; Showtime Robby Royce vs. Plum Loco. Champion Rob Stardom will also defend his title.
