The Miz's sights set high

Mike Mizanin understands the whole Wrestlemania moment thing.

He's watched and soaked up some of the finest Mania matches ... the ironman match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, Michaels vs. The Undertaker twice; and Michaels vs. Ric Flair ("it wasn't even the match, it was the emotion and the finish was incredible.")

But the 30-year-old Mizanin who has risen to the top of the WWE ranks as The Miz, and yep, he is pretty awesome, wants that moment to be about him.

"This really is a dream come true," he says, just a couple of days before Wrestlemania's circus of the stars erupts in Atlanta. "As a kid, I watched Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant. It was larger than life. And now, I'm on that same stage.

"I don't think it's left my mind since Monday's RAW. I'm in there with The Rock and John Cena -- two icons. And I'm going to show them that the torch needs to be passed to me, the up-and-comer."

It's not like The Miz, who puts his WWE championship on the line against Cena, should have anything to prove. But he feels like he's always under the microscope, with others waiting for him to fail.

"It's been that way my entire career," he says. "People told me I wouldn't make Real World. When I started with WWE, people told me I would get fired in the first three months. And when I won the tag titles, they said I didn't deserve it. When I won the U.S. title, they said I wasn't worthy. When I won the Money in the Bank, they said I would lose. And they said I would never win the WWE championship.

"People have always said I couldn't do it ... yadda, yadda, yadda.

"(As for Sunday against Cena) everybody says I'm going to lose. Well, ladies and gentleman, here you go. I'm going to prove you wrong again.

"I am the biggest WWE star you will ever see. And if I've become the best, I want to get better than that."

The Miz has his sights set high.

"I always say you're only as good as your last time on TV. If I have an off-day, that's not good. With wrestlers like (Hogan, Triple H, Flair, and Michaels), they didn't have off-days. I just can't remember them flubbing anything. All I remember is their iconic status.

"I'm the most must-see WWE champ. Every time you see me, you're going to see something special."

He's OK with The Rock, not so long ago The People's Champ, sharing some of this weekend's spotlight.

"The Rock keeps cutting into my stuff," says The Miz. "But if he can bring in more people to watch the pay-per-view, those people will see me. And the next time, they will pay to see me in a pay-per-view."

The Miz can't wait for that moment on Sunday, that time when he gets to do his thing. He knows he might be a bit nervous, but that would be a good thing.

"When I'm ready to go out, I'm back in the gorilla position (near the entrance)," he says. "I'm always a nervous wreck, pacing back and forth with butterflies in my stomach.

"Once that music hits, it all goes away and turns into energy, adrenaline.

Then, nothing can take me down. I'm Superman."

Now all John Cena needs to do is find some kryptonite.
