Countdown to TNA Lockdown
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

There's so much I could say about TNA right now... and at the same time so little.

For those who read my Impact review a few weeks back, I have had trouble buying into a lot of what TNA has done recently, namely the MVP owner angle. Thankfully it looks like much of it will wrap tonight after the Lethal Lockdown match.

I don't think I've seen an ownership 'battle' go so quickly into the 'for all the marbles' moment... well, maybe in WCW but... Honestly, that this all happened essentially in a single round of overseas tapings for TNA tells you how little faith there was in the booking to begin with. Not a good sign.

Some will say that the angle will continue after MVP's team wins, but really, this one has to go to Dixie's crew since it gives the opportunity for a Bobby Roode face turn, something I think most TNA fans have been wanting to see for some time now, and certainly more desired than an EC3 turn, but more on that in a moment.

The other big match tonight is the TNA Heavyweight Championship bout between Magnus and Samoa Joe, and here's where I know what TNA is going to do - keep the belt on Magnus - that I disagree with most. Joe right now needs the belt more than Magnus does and it makes for a much better storyline if Dixie throws everything she has at the unstoppable Joe and can't beat him, than for Joe to come up on the end of a screwjob. I'll play fantasy book for a moment and say that Magnus has trouble beating Joe so she sends in the troops, only for EC3 miscue and cost Magnus the match. It plays perfectly into the burgeoning heat he has with both the champ and Aunt Dixie. Only problem is I can't see anyone getting behind EC3 as a face, unless...

And here's where Carter needs to get over with the fans - he needs an absolute mat classic with Kurt Angle, putting on a solid enough performance that he gets the 'standing ovation' moment from the assembled masses. It doesn't matter who goes over - but there has to be the respect handshake at the end.

Elsewhere on the card, Gail Kim needs to lose to Madison Rayne, take the TNA vs. Japan two matches in a split (can't wait to see Muta again!) and James Storm to defeat Gunner.

Enjoy the show!
