Countdown to WWE Survivor Series
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

Whether WWE considers it a major PPV or not, the SLAM! Wrestling crew still looks at Survivor Series as one of the premier events on the wrestling calendar. So a few of us decided to get together and give our thoughts for one of our favourites. Here's what we expect to happen tonight.

John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio (World Heavyweight Championship)

Bob Kapur - They’re clearly trying to reverse the anti-Cena sentiment and make him into a 80s-Hulk-Hogan-esque face. In his own home-town against a heel that even “cool” fans don’t like? No way he loses.

Matthew Asher - If WWE wants this title to be more than simply a secondary title, Cena needs to retain. He'll win via an STF(U) after countering the cross armbreaker.

Matthew Byer - There's little doubt that Cena is going to get the win here. However, the match will likely focus on Cena not being 100% healthy and there's an outside chance that Damien Sandow will ambush him after the match. Nevertheless, the Doctor of Thuganomics will win with a thundering Attitude Adjustment to further rebuild John Cena as the dominant force in the WWE.

Jon Waldman - I'm not sold on Cena anymore. The injuries are starting to mount and this 'gut it out' gimmick is not working for me. He wins, of course.

Big Show vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

Bob Kapur - The reactions Show’s been getting in this build have been incredible. They’ll likely coast on this one and have him continue the chase, and feud against the Authority a little longer. Orton wins with HHH’s help.

Matthew Asher - Even without the Shield, Authority etc. Orton will win, possibly with help from Kane.

Matthew Byer - The outcome of this match really comes down to one question: How much longer is The Big Show planning to wrestle? There have been rumors swirling that he may retire in the near future so if that's true they might have him win here and have a brief run with the WWE Title. Otherwise, we'll probably see Orton win by nefarious means. I foresee The Big Show winning by disqualification, but not becoming the new WWE Champion.

Jon Waldman - I don't mind the push for Show, but I'm tired of seeing these two together. Orton needs new blood to battle with. RKO wins.

Daniel Bryan/CM Punk vs. The Wyatt Family

Bob Kapur - Punk and Daniel have fallen so far recently, look for them to feud with 3MB next. Or maybe each other, which would be great. Wyatts win.

Matthew Asher - Wyatts. JBL said it best "A good team beats a team of good individuals" (slight paraphrase)

Matthew Byer - I'll be curious to see if Paul Heyman turns up for revenge on CM Punk during this match. The Wyatts will get the win here because this feud is only getting started and will be continuing at least until the Royal Rumble.

Jon Waldman - Wyatts have to win to stay viable.

Total Divas vs. Roster Divas (Survivor Series Match)

Bob Kapur - They should do a spin-off of the Total Divas reality show, this one featuring only the “Roster Divas”. I’d watch both. I’m not proud in saying that. Nobody cares who wins.

Matthew Asher - If WWE wants to pimp their reality show, then Total Divas will win. Natalya gets the win over AJ Lee, setting up a title match.

Matthew Byer - With how Eva Marie has been portrayed on the Total Divas program she's a prime candidate to betray her team and cost them the match. I'll predict it comes down to AJ Lee and Tamina Snuka double teaming one of the Bella twins for the win.

Jon Waldman - If WWE is going to push Brie seriously, she needs to beat the odds here... or Nikki needs to turn on her.

Rhodes Bros. / The Usos / Rey Mysterio vs. Real Americans/ The Shield (Survivor Series Match)

Bob Kapur - Survivor Series matches are great for building up new talent – have someone demolish the other team, and you’ve built a star in one night. Roman Reigns will be the sole survivor, setting up his split from the Shield.

Matthew Asher - Real Americans get the pin on one of the Rhodes. Should set up a title match for the next PPV.

Matthew Byer - Goldust has said many times how he and Cody Rhodes want to wrestle each other at Wrestlemania so this is a logical place to setup the storyline for it. I'll go with Goldust being the sole survivor and Cody Rhodes coming out afterwards a bit ticked off just as Owen Hart did in 1993.

Jon Waldman - Shield has to go over here. I'm assuming they're setting up Rey vs. Dean Ambrose in some fashion. Reigns is the sole survivor.

Miz vs. Kofi Kingston

Bob Kapur - Miz just turned heel, so he has to win for that to mean anything.

Matthew Asher - Miz. Don't ask me why, but I think he'll get the W.

Matthew Byer - The Miz is going over here in order to reestablish his heeldom.

Jon Waldman - Thanks for turning Miz back WWE, now put him over strong.

Big E Langston vs. Curtis Axel (Intercontinental Title Match)

Bob Kapur - Curtis Axel to Mr. Perfect is like David Sammartino to Bruno. Big E wins.

Matthew Asher - No way Big E loses this quickly after winning the strap. Expect him to retain and possibly set up his "I need 5" pin much like King Kong Bundy.

Matthew Byer - If Paul Heyman isn't involved in this match the Intercontinental Title is staying with Big E Langston.

Jon Waldman - Big E in a cakewalk.
