Countdown to WWE TLC
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

TLC, WWE's throw-together PPV (though not by their design unlike other companies) is tonight and with it comes a couple questions like always.

The big question this time around? Whether a rogue group of young upstarts will get the all-important victory over the well-established (at least in 2/3 cases) veterans.

Let's not waste time with niceness - this is a MUST win for The Shield. In order to maintain any momentum and not be a run-in-and-done faction, the victory needs to be decisive and big. While all rumours point to one of Kane or Daniel Bryan taking the pin, by right it should be Ryback since that is where the feud is centred (at least until the trio cost Hell No the tag belts which I'll talk about more in a second).

Now I don't want to dismiss the rightful main event, but let's face it - the match that's getting the real buzz tonight is John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler for Dolph's MITB briefcase. That the case is up for grabs at all (literally) is just plain dumb. I usually don't complain about the booking of John Cena (surprisingly perhaps) but this is just absurd. Ziggler should not be in this position with his credibility on the line. Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that somehow Ziggles loses the match and ends up turning babyface when Vickie, someway somehow, costs him the bout and he separates himself fully from her. The only way this resolutes well is if Ziggler gets the Royal Rumble win.

Now as for the World Heavyweight Championship which supposedly said briefcase is being targeted to, The match could really go either way. In a perfect world Ziggler would win MITB and cash in on Big Show in a similar fashion to how Daniel Bryan did one year ago; heck, Cena could do the same. The key will be to keep Sheamus strong and possibly line him up somewhere close to after WrestleMania as a WWE Championship threat.

Now to go through the other bouts that dot the card:

  • Take Rhodes Scholars over Los Technicos;
  • Bank on Wade Barrett picking up his first WWE gold in the form of the Intercontinental Championship;
  • Watch for Antonio Cesaro to decimate R-Truth;
  • Look for Alicia Fox to win the Divas Battle Royale but lose to Eve in the title bout later in the evening.

    Enjoy the show!
