Countdown to WWE Elimination Chamber
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

With just a few hours left until 12 WWE superstars are subjected to the fiercest working conditions in the industry, it's time to look at the two Elimination Chamber matches that make up the bulk of tonight's aptly named pay-per-view.

Let's start on the Raw side, where CM Punk has four pretenders and one contender to deal with. The popular opinion is that Chris Jericho has the best shot of anyone in the bout of walking out the cage as the sole survivor. The theory has been presented that Jericho, who draws the final entry tonight, walks into a wasteland of a match with all foes fallen and sneaks out a victory. I prefer to think, instead, that shenanigans get involved and, indeed, Jericho does get his hand raised in victory.

On the Smackdown side, this one is Daniel Bryan's to lose. The tease of Sheamus vs. Bryan at WrestleMania certainly whetted my appetite to see the two do battle in what could be the show stealing match come April. With no reasonably safe contender to the World Title throne in the battle (well, maybe except Santino), let's call this one as a belt keeper.

The other two matches announced for tonight's card are fairly straight forward. There isn't a snowball's hope in hell that Kane will come out the victor here, as John Cena must start to focus on The Rock.

In the other match we know about, Beth Phoenix faces Tamina in what is likely not the only match of this feud. The two work pretty damn well together and with more build could be a highlight women's bout rather than a toss-in. Let's hope that WWE gives the women time tonight to work. I'm taking Beth by nefarious means, leading to a 'Mania bout that should be among the best we've seen in recent years from the Divas.

Enjoy Elimination Chamber!
