Countdown to Capitol Punishment

Capitol Punishment is upon us and WWE is serving up what has become a very
hot card with very little gimmickry. It's amazing what can happen when you
generate new, refreshing feuds eh?
Because so many of these feuds are in their early stages, it's somewhat impossible
to tell what exactly will happen tonight, so I'm not expecting a high accuracy
percentage tonight, which is fine by me - I'd much rather be wrong and surprised
by what goes down tonight, than be right and bored.
Let's take a look at the lineup.
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
R-Truth vs. John Cena |
The unfortunate part of this match is that it was rushed to this point. Truth
is on fire, but rushing him to the main event could be a mistake. I know there
are circumstances that led to this - namely John Morrison's injury - but an
in-between feud would have been preferred. I expect a somewhat screwy finish
here to advance the conspiracy angle against Truth.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Randy Orton vs. Christian |
|
We've seen Orton and Christian a couple times already but it really feels like
we haven't begun to scratch the surface of what the two can do. Orton will be
severely limited in the ring, thanks to his concussion, and I could see WWE
doing the title flip to give him a rest for a couple months leading to a big
rematch at Summerslam.

UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH
Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler |
|
Of the two retread feuds on this card, this one bugs me a lot more. By the
time Ziggler/Kofi was done last time I was more than sick of the two being in
the ring together. Nothing's changed. If there's any time to take a "break",
it's during this match.

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
Ezekiel Jackson vs. Wade Barrett |
|
Last month, I said this feud was rushed to PPV too quickly. Now that more time
has passed, I'm feeling a bit better. The added dynamic of Wade Barrett going
solo makes things a bit more interesting, and I wouldn't be surprised if Zeke
has a certain entourage with him. Zeke wins.

GRUDGE MATCH
Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio |
|
The angle for this match was simple, yet very well executed. I'm not expecting
a clean finish here, as there is plenty of life left for these two in the ring.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Alex Riley vs. The Miz |
|
The build for this bout has been solid, but something seems fishy. Methinks
The Miz has a new protege in his back pocket ready to run interference, either
he or at the July PPV. Miz wins in sneaky fashion.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk |
|
Is WWE trying to appease Punk by giving him a good worker to battle, or are
they putting him in neutral and coasting with him until he leaves? I'll take
Rey to win, and I get the feeling we're getting a Loser Leaves Town match in
July or August.
