Countdown to TNA Lockdown

Sometimes, you just have to give your head a good shake when it comes to previewing
TNA, and Lockdown is certainly one of those mind-numbing cases.
Despite all the ragging TNA has received from pundits, the concept of an all-steel
cage PPV has gone over, albeit to as far an extent as any TNA PPV has. Yet,
it falls just a couple weeks after WrestleMania, the one show a year that is
not only the one that everyone buys, but is also the one that costs the most.
TNA would be much better served to have run Lockdown in May and not run an April
show whatsoever.
The card itself is a mixed bag, so let's take a look.

TNA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Ken Anderson vs. Sting vs. RVD |
|
The Mr. Anderson 'tweener character development annoys me. There has never been
a truly successful character who's sat on the face/heel fence, and Anderson
is not pulling it off. Why TNA killed one of their actual marketable characters
by having him flip flop as if he were a fish on the floor of a fisherman's boat
is beyond me. As a fan of TNA, I can tell you it's killed my interest in Kenny
and this entire angle has not done anything to spark even one iota of interest
from me. I get the feeling RVD wins, just so TNA can make yet another 'tweener,
as Immortal helps him get the victory.
LETHAL LOCKDOWN
Immortal vs. Fortune |
While I don't mind Daniels in the Fortune mix, and I'm certainly glad he's
back in TNA, there's something about this that just doesn't feel like Fallen
Angel belongs here. I still have not been given any reason to think that Gunner
and/or Murphy are legit threats either - maybe because Murphy sounds more like
the name of a deli slicer than a wrestler. Fortune gets the victory and Flair
bleeds like a stuck pig.
|
CAGE MATCH
Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle |
|
The build here has been good but there's something about this feud that feels
like it's been dragged on too long. We'll probably wait one more month to get
the decisive finish, so I expect something screwy here. I'll take a DQ finish.

HAIR VS. TITLE MATCH
Mickie James vs. Madison Rayne |
|
Tara's anticipated turn on Madison kills this match. Mickie finally winning
the title should mean more, but instead it's just background to the "real"
feud. Mick keeps her brown locks.
| |
CAGE MATCH
Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan |
|
I apologize for my earlier remarks about Jarrett/Angle. THIS is the feud that
has gone on way too damn long. What's it been, 3 years now? Honestly, I didn't
care when the two split up and I care even less now. TNA has killed Matt Morgan
as a viable main eventer and Hernandez should stick in the tag team division.
| |
CAGE MATCH
Samoa Joe vs. The Pope |
|
I can see this feud ending here. The trick will ultimately be to elevate both
guys. Realistically, Pope needs the win more, but Joe needs a good momentum
shot as well. I get the feeling Joe gets his much-needed duke here.
Just for fun, I'll say Suicide wins.
| |
CAGE MATCH
Mickie James vs. Tara |
|
The feud has been well booked and the match type makes sense. I'm guessing
this one ends in the men's bathroom (variation on the Benoit/Sullivan classic).
| |
CAGE MATCH
Ink Inc. vs. Crimson/Scott Steiner vs. Orlando Jordan/Eric Young vs.
British Invasion |
|
If it were me booking, I'd put the Brits back in the tag team title picture.
It's not me though, so it'll probably be Jordan and Young.
