Countdown to TNA Victory Road

Okay, I'm actually a little bit more optimistic this month about TNA's future.
While I have yet to hear whether the now travelling TNA tapings are paid-for
seating or comps, the atmosphere the last couple weeks was absolutely incredible,
and fan reaction from the road could help drive sales, especially for the waning
pay-per-view market.
TNA still has a few obstacles to clear, namely bad gimmicks, but compare the
company to where it was even six months ago and things are looking healthier.
As always, the question has never been about the talent or the dedication the
writers have to storylines and telling tales - instead, it's that some just
are plain bad and what could be PPV sellers, like Sting vs. Hardy first-run
for the title tonight on Victory Road, are being used on TV broadcasts.
Nonetheless, we should get a decent card tonight; the only question is will
people buy in? Let's take a look at Victory Road.

TNA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Jeff Hardy vs. Sting |
|
I don't mind how these two work in the ring, but it feels so much like TNA
is going to go back to the Sting vs. Flair well at some point. What does that
mean? Well, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say Hardy loses the rematch
tonight. The only question is whether or not we get Sting vs. Ken Anderson next
month at Lockdown.
TNA WORLDHEAVYWEIGHT TITLE #1 CONTENDER'S
MATCH
Ken Anderson vs. Rob Van Dam |
Man, RVD's star is fading fast! Seriously, the giant pops he got at first are
decreasing on a weekly basis. The momentum lost with the fake injury angle is
really showing now. I'm guessing eventually he'll slide into the ECW vs. Bubba
Ray Dudley angle. As stated above, Anderson is logically in line for the title
shot, so he should get the duke here and continue to be a tweener.
|
X-DIVISION TITLE ULTIMATE X MATCH
Robbie E vs. Kazarian vs. Max Buck vs. Jeremy Buck |
|
Robbie's working the gimmick well and Kaz seems to be rejuvenated, so it essentially
comes down to those two going at it. I don't know why TNA wants to split Gen
Me already. Neither has proven to be the Shawn Michaels of the tandem yet. Give
them individual personalities before they split, please! I'll take Robbie to
get the title back.
| |
FIRST BLOOD MATCH
Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez |
|
I didn't care about this feud when it started however many years ago and I
still don't now. Morgan's dying out there for some unknown reason, but it's
reasonable to say his flip-flopping between face and heel has a lot to do with
it. I'll take Hernandez, just because I can.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Tommy Dreamer vs. Bubba Ray Dudley |
|
I'm still not sold on this angle. I just don't understand why Tommy would stick
his nose in Dudley business. In the old days of ECW, that would get Dreamer
a bloody beatdown. As twisted as it is, I honestly would not be shocked if Devon
turns on Tommy and sides with Bubba (and no, I'm not going to call him "Bully
Ray". That's the worst name in wrestling today).

TNA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Ink Inc. vs. Beer Money |
|
I can't put my finger on it, but I just have not been able to buy into Ink
Inc. as a true threat. I'm guessing we'll get Hardyz vs. Beer Money next month,
so Storm and Roode keep the belts here.
| |
TNA KNOCKOUTS TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Angelina Love/Winter vs. Sarita/Rosita |
|
I get the feeling Velvet and Angelina turn on Winter here and leave her laying.
The Winnipegger and her non-cousin cousin get the belts.
