Countdown to TNA Turning Point

Given the recent attendance numbers at TNA house shows, it's hard to qualify
tonight's pay-per-view as a Turning Point.
Sub-1,000 attendees is not exactly giving a heck of a lot of confidence to
an organization is considered the number-two wrestling promotion in North America.
While the debate over why this is the case could go on for hours (or simply
for a couple minutes), it's hard to argue that TNA really needs to turn things
around, and not in the overhyped manner that Dixie and Co. have been doing -
rather it needs to quietly happen. When you force, you get resistance, and in
this case, you get reluctant fans not buying tickets, and just as bad, your
pay-per-view.
In summary: At this point, TNA doesn't need a Turning Point, it needs a Turn-Around.
Let's take a look at what's lined up for tonight.
|
TNA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Morgan |
|
Okay I get that TNA needed a quick fix for Anderson's absence, but turning
Morgan, who's spent more time in the last 10 months flipping between face and
heel, was the wrong move. No one else in the company could've filled in the
spot? Really? Hardy's going over here, at the expense, once again, of the Blueprint.
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Team 3D vs. Motor City Machine Guns |
Oh for crying out loud. 3D ain't retiring folks. Even if they split the band
up for a bit, as has been rumoured, they'll be back together in 2011. 3D turns
heel (again) in a fake retirement angle that starts tonight. DQ victory for
the Guns to start this feud.
|
X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Robbie E vs. Jay Lethal |
|
Who has money on J-Woww making an unadvertised appearance tonight? I do! Robbie's
not bad in the ring, but the character is overshadowing the worker, and we know
how well that worked out for Lethal, don't we. I wouldn't be shocked to see
the title swap tonight.

LOSE THE MATCH, LOSE A MEMBER MATCH
EV2 vs. Fortune |
|
Can we get EV2 off our TVs already? I'm sorry to all the ECW fanatics who are
getting warm fuzzies from this, but this has gone on far too long. Time to put
EV2 out to pasture. If you're starting with one that's fine; but make these
elimination matches a weekly occurence, please!
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Mickie James vs. Tara |
|
Horrible booking here folks. You're basing a feud on something that (did not)
happen in WWE and naming the company in the process? What's next - bringing
in Sunny and Sable? Seriously, this feud is not entertaining, and the fact that
a re-run WWE match is on this card when TNA's biggest strength, arguably, is
it's home-grown women's division, says a lot about the confidence that bookers
have in their girls. The obvious booking is that Mickie goes over to meet and
beat Madison. Feh.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Jeff Jarrett vs. Samoa Joe |
|
Joe should be getting the push, but it seems inevitable that there will be
a run-in to save Jarrett and give him the scuzzy win. Odds of a guitar shot
to end the match are 1.25:1.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Tommy Dreamer vs. Rob Van Dam |
|
Again - EV2 shoudl be dead and buried. Sigh.
| |
LUMBERJACK MATCH
The Pope vs. Abyss |
|
Inevitably someone among the lumberjacks is a debuting or returning TNA superstar,
likely someone to help The Pope. Dinero wins.
