Countdown to TNA Lockdown

TNA seems bound and determined to keep Lockdown going, so I guess all that
we as wrestling fans can do is sit back and hope that we get a really good series
of matches tonight inside the steel cage.
There are a couple things we know for sure - we're bound to see a lot of blood,
we're guaranteed to see a couple screw jobs and it's inevitable that at least
one title will change hands.
But rather than dwell on the background of tonight's PPV, let's take a look
inside at what could happen in a few hours time.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
The Pope vs. AJ Styles |
|
While my head tells me there will be a title change tonight, the rest of me
seems to think that we're going to see a screwjob finish instead. I guess TNA
could go the Dusty route and have a couple swerves thrown in, especially depending
on Hogan's mood after the Lethal Lockdown bout. We should get a good match
here but this is a case where the cage is as much a hindrance as a help, since
AJ and Pope won't be able to use the ropes as effectively. I'm guessing that
Flair gets involved (and bloodied) somehow, leading to Styles taking the bout.
LETHAL LOCKDOWN MATCH
Abyss/Jeff Jarrett/Jeff Hardy/RVD vs. Sting/Beer Money/Desmond Wolfe |
While I'll admit that the build here has been fantastic, I'm still not excited
by this bout, and a lot of it has to do with my inability to really buy Abyss
as a main event babyface empowered by the beaming light that is Hulkamania.
Having Jarrett in the mix is positive, because really for the first time in
his career Jarrett has the kind of babyface build that can really make fans
get behind him. But his push, along with the meteoric heat that Hardy and RVD
have, are at this point playing second string to Abyss, which is such backwards
thinking by the company. On the other side, Beer Money is still red hot and
Sting has a good story behind him, but Desmond Wolfe is a couple losses away
from being a jobber to the stars. If it was me with the pen, the heels would
tear Abyss limb from limb, steal the ring and melt it down in the ring on Monday;
but I don't, so that means Abyss is the hero, BROTHER!

GRUDGE MATCH
Kurt Angle vs. Ken Anderson |
|
With word leaking that Angle's taking a month off, this one's a guaranteed
victory for Anderson. Twitter needs a spoiler alert button.
| |
X DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Doug Williams vs. Shannon Moore vs. Kazarian |
|
I'm sorry. I respect the hell out of Shannon Moore but I'm not digging the
Prince of Punk gimmick. Williams has too much going for him with the title around
his waist to drop it now, so look for him to emerge from this bout with belt
intact.

KNOCKOUTS TITLE/WOMEN'S TAG TEAM TITLE
MATCH
The Beautiful People vs. Tara/Angelina Love |
|
Knowing Russo, Lacey Von Erich ends up with the singles title around her waist.
God the division has plummeted.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Eric Young vs. Kevin Nash |
|
Even though the copyright belongs to WWE, I'm still allowed to call this an
nWo run-in.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH
Team 3D vs. The Band |
|
I don't necessarily mind the idea of Team 3D up against teams they've never
faced, but unless there's a mega team waiting in the wings the feud with the
former nWo seems like the cap on this run. I'm guessing The Band loses by DQ
just to extend the feud.
