Countdown to TNA No Surrender
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff
It's time for No Surrender, and as per TNA tradition, only five matches were
officially leaked to potential PPV viewers before Thursday's Impact.
Yup, rather than give readers the full story for No Surrender, TNA chose instead
to save the last pieces until the last taping. It's a strategy that I've never
understood, especially when they had some time to hype perhaps the biggest story
of all -- who would replace Angelina Love in the Knockouts tag title match.
But I digress. The five matches we preview below certainly have their own appeal
and overall look to be decent showings.
Let's get to the predictions.
|
TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Kurt Angle vs. Sting vs. AJ Styles vs. Matt Morgan |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
Cluster! Honestly, I'm sick of thee multi-man matches. I get it already TNA
-- you have a lot of main eventers. Kudos. My hope would be for AJ to win, but
with the biggest PPV of the year in sight, it's staying with Kurt.
Bob Kapur
Weird psychology in this one, with a single heel facing three guys who are out
to get him. Makes him a bit too sympathetic, no? Would like to see Matt Morgan
take the belt, just to mix things up a little, but it's probably too soon. I
can see Sting winning it and holding it until Bound for Glory in some sort of
retirement stipulation match, if those rumours are to be believed.
Greg Oliver
Looking beyond this to Bound For Glory, where they are teasing Sting retires,
I wonder whether he gets one last run here. Nostalgia rules the day, so Sting
wins.

GRUDGE MATCH
Bobby Lashley vs. Rhino |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
If Rhino wins I'm never watching TNA again, because that would be the worse
booking ever. Case closed.
Bob Kapur
Who did Rhino tick off to become PPV fodder for Lashley? Hopefully they give
him some offense before he gets pinned.
Greg Oliver
No question Lashley goes over. The question is how much offence Rhino is allowed
to get in.
|
X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
I like this match for a lot of reasons, but you have to wonder if it will be
anywhere close to what it was a few years ago with Joe's added bulk. This is
building to something bigger, so I'll say Joe wins by DQ.
Bob Kapur
Remember a couple of years ago when Daniels, Joe and AJ had the best matches
on a TNA PPV? Despite Joe's ill-advised new look, he can still go in the ring.
This one could be like old times - in a good way.
Greg Oliver
What year is this? Can they still deliver? We're all hoping the magic is still
there, and I'm hoping that Samoa Joe keeps the belt -- for a while, giving the
title some meaning again.

TNA TAG TEAM MATCH (LETHAL LOCKDOWN)
Main Event Mafia vs. Team 3D vs. Beer Money vs. British Invasion |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
And another cluster! I hate having eight guys locked in a cage -- that's too
many bodies. You almost get the feeling that the Invasion will take the titles
here, just to put a rift between them and the Mafia. If that happens, I'll be
happy.
Bob Kapur
This should be a fun match. It'll be "bowling shoe ugly" to steal
a phrase, but it should be fun. British Invasion cheat to win - likely with
interference from the rest of the World Elite.
Greg Oliver
These are always such messy matches that it makes it hard to predict, except that
there will be chaos. I'll take Beer Money to sneak in for the win when the plunder
is flying all around.
| |
TNA LEGENDS TITLE / $10,000 BOUNTY MATCH
Abyss vs. Kevin Nash
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
Ugh. I hate that belt, I hate Abyss. I mildly tolerate Kevin Nash at the best
of times. Popcorn break!
Bob Kapur
Yeesh - this could be even more ugly. Foley and Dr. Stevie get involved and
it becomes a big cluster. Nash wins in the end. I'm hoping for a Raven run-in.
Greg Oliver
Abyss can lose and still stay at the same level; winning doesn't elevate him
or the title either. Nash is, well, Nash -- for the good and the bad. He'll
win.
