Countdown to TNA Slammiversary
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff
You've got to hand it to TNA on occasion -- they do build up matches well.
For example, tonight's presentation of Slammiversary. All the matches here
have been well built with great storyline work on the shows over the last few
weeks. Now comes the big test though -- does this work and the allure of $7
tickets sell a ton of seats in the Palace of Auburn Hills? If not, TNA management
had better take a hard look at themselves.
Let's see what's on tap for tonight.
|
TNA CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH (King of the Mountain)
Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles vs. Mick Foley vs. Jeff Jarrett |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
The obvious choice here is Jarrett, since he needs to resume his title chase
of Ric Flair. Joe and Angle cancel each other out and you can expect a spectacular
spot from AJ to take out Foley, allowing Jarrett to ascend to the top of the
mountain once again.
Chris Sokol
I expect there to be plenty of interference in this match-up. I see Earl Hebner
turning heel again, considering all the time he's spent the last few weeks on
Impact with Mick Foley. I see Angle getting outside help, Samoa Joe using outside
sources to gain an edge and Jeff Jarrett screwed, but through it all, I see
AJ Styles capturing the TNA Heavyweight Championship.
Greg Oliver
The smart money seems to be on Styles, but I'm not ready to give up on Foley as the champion quite yet. I think he retains here, but builds towards a loss to Styles in the future in a one-on-one match. (TNA still does those on occasion for the belt, don't they?)

X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH (King of the Mountain)
Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed vs. Alex Shelley vs. Chris Sabin vs.
Jay Lethal |
| |
|
WHAT YOU THINK
|
|
Who will win the King of the Mountain match for the X Division title at Slammiversary on Sunday?
Suicide (c) - 59%
Alex Shelly - 12%
Chris Sabin - 12%
Jay Lethal - 9%
Consequences Creed - 8%
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
Could it be anymore obvious that Suicide wins here?
Chris Sokol
Despite being in the Motor City Machine Guns hometown, I see Suicide walking
away with the title. Lethal Consequences will most likely get knocked from the
match at some point, leaving the Guns to double team Suicide until their egos
get involved and cost them the match. A post match, punch-out from Curtis Granderson
probably isn't out of the question either.
Greg Oliver
Suicide is on a roll, and everyone else has to lay down for him in this one.
|
GRUDGE MATCH (Spot in the Main Event Mafia)
Sting vs. Matt Morgan |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
This one intrigues me. Part of me says we see Morgan get the spot, but I could
just as easily see Sting win and, after the match, telling Morgan he has earned
his spot.
Chris Sokol
With Booker T, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash not even advertised, I expect to
see interference in this match. Matt Morgan will pick up the big win here, as
Booker, Steiner and Nash get revenge on Sting for letting Samoa Joe take them
out. Morgan becomes the new face of the Mafia.
Greg Oliver
Sting is apparently heading for retirement (again), so Morgan needs the boost. But it's too early in their building feud. Sting wins, but Morgan earns respect.
| |
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM MATCH
Team 3D vs. Beer Money |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
If Beer Money were to get the belts back, this would be the night. I like their
chances.
Chris Sokol
Team 3D get the victory here and finally settle the score with Beer Money Inc,
leaving them to feud with the British Invasion.
Greg Oliver
Wow. These teams again. Beer Money win.
| |
TNA KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH
Angelina Love vs. Tara
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
It would seem kind of amateurish for TNA to put the belt on a departed WWE Diva
so quickly. Therefore, as per TNA logic, Tara wins.
Chris Sokol
Awesome Kong gets involved here, allowing Angelina Love to escape with her
title.
Greg Oliver
It's a given that there will be some outside interference, and it'll likely backfire on Love, allowing Tara to win the title.
| |
INTERGENDER MATCH (Monster's Ball)
Raven/Daffney vs. Abyss/Taylor Wilde
|
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
The tease of brutality against Lauren has happened for too long for her just
to get a bruise on her arm. Either she or Taylor blades here. I'll take Raven
and Daffney here.
Chris Sokol
Raven and Daffney get the win by defeating Taylor Wilde, leaving Abyss to chase
after them some more.
Greg Oliver
Having watched Wilde on the Toronto indy scene all those years ago, I can honestly say I'd never envisioned her in this type of match. Yikes. Raven and Daffney win.
| |
GRUDGE MATCH (Second Chance)
(Christopher) Daniels vs. Shane Douglas
|
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
No question here. Daniels beat Douglas.
Chris Sokol
Douglas breaks out the steel chain and gets his second chance.
Greg Oliver
What's the point of bringing Douglas in only to have him disappear real quick? I think he wins here.
